Marriott International’s luxury St Regis brand has landed in Egypt’s bustling capital with an extravagant 39-storey offering designed by Michael Graves.
Cairo’s hotel landscape has just received a significant boost with the opening of St Regis Cairo, the latest addition to the prestigious St Regis brand.
A landmark building with a riverside location
Perched on the banks of the River Nile at the north end of the Corniche, in the heart of the bustling capital, the 39-storey property, designed by architect Michael Graves, takes its cues from the city’s fascinating history, while denoting a strong sense of its vibrant future.
“Egypt has historically been one of our key markets and strategically significant to our growth in the region,” said Satya Anand, president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International. “Cairo is a storied destination that has long mesmerised the global traveller with its incredible energy offering a vibrant mix of history, culture, tradition and glamour. The St Regis Cairo is an exciting addition to our fast-growing brand portfolio and is set to elevate Cairo’s luxury hospitality landscape with its remarkable design, uncompromising service, and exceptional culinary venues.”
A modern Egyptian aesthetic
Unfurling over 286 guestrooms, 80 apartments and three sweeping Royal Suites – which come complete with their own private fitness rooms and saunas – the hotel, with its panoramic Nile River views, exudes a modern Egyptian aesthetic, opulently executed with a sense of elegant grandeur. As such, details like the repeated geometric motif – referencing the region’s heritage – and ‘The Pink Sun’, a head-turning mural in the St Regis Bar, are further embellished with dark timbers, rich textures, intricate embroidery, glitzy panelling, flashes of shimmering gold, mother-of-pearl inlays and crystal chandeliers.
Billed as a lifestyle destination for the city, the hotel’s six restaurants and bars cover everything from relaxed southern Italian fare to J&G Steakhouse, which serves premium cuts and fish grilled to perfection. The highlights though are surely Tianma, which journeys through Singapore with flavours from China, India and South-East Asia, and the iconic St Regis Bar, whose local version of the brand’s signature Bloody Mary Cocktail is infused with the exotic taste and fragrance of the hibiscus flower.
Spectacular event spaces from St Regis
The hotel’s impressive events offering includes the Astor Ballroom, with a curved grand staircase that surrounds a striking Swarovski chandelier; the Grand Ballroom, which can host up to 1,000 guests, with a three-storey vaulted ceiling; and ten flexible meeting rooms, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Elsewhere, The Library, with its artefacts, rich furnishings and abundance of books, and The Water Garden are ideal for informal meetings, while the Athletic Club, the indoor and outdoor swimming pools and the sprawling 1,000 sq m signature Iridium Spa are also likely to prove popular.
Eng Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, CEO of Qatari Diar, said: “This luxury landmark will introduce higher standards of hospitality to this beautiful destination with its unparalleled levels of luxury and exceptional service – both of which the iconic St Regis brand is renowned for.”
St Regis, a high-profile brand comprising luxury full-service hotels, resorts and residences, is for connoisseurs who desire the finest expressions of luxury.
