Hyatt lands with a bang in the Dominican Republic, as it announces the opening of its combined resort complex – one family friendly, one adult only – in the gated community of Cap Cana. We take a look inside the group’s debut on the Caribbean island.

Cap Cana welcomes Hyatt

Hotel giant Hyatt has made a huge splash on the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic with its debut offering of a pair of resorts, the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, combined in the complex of Cap Cana. The properties offer an all-inclusive hospitality experience to guests, and visitors can choose from the family-friendly Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana resort or the adult-only Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana resort, both located on the idyllic Juanillo Beach sea shore. The hotels are situated within the Cap Cana gated community, which benefits from two miles of private, white sandy beaches, its own marina, equestrian centre and golf course.

Frank Lavey, senior vice president of operations, Hyatt, spoke of the opening, saying, “Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana offer an elevated experience for our global guests. The resorts’ compelling design creates areas that help create family memories, while also featuring intimate places where adults can recharge, reconnect and pamper themselves. We’re also proud to deliver elevated amenities, all centered around Hyatt’s pillars of wellbeing: Feel, Fuel and Function.”

Features and amenities

There is something for everyone at the Cap Cana complex, with the hotels catering to both families and individuals, meaning guests can have a tailored all-inclusive experience. “As our first ground up build, we set out to define what all-inclusive means in the Dominican Republic,” said Alex Stadlin, chief operating officer, Playa Hotels & Resorts.

“Cap Cana is regarded as one of the best destinations in the Caribbean, and Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana provide a welcomed originality to the country’s hospitality landscape, including elevated dining and entertainment experiences, a sophisticated ambiance, authentic touches, and our signature Service from the Heart.”

The hotels are separate but connected via a shared common area which overlooks the pools and ocean beyond. The resorts boast nine dining options between them, as well as a state of the art fitness centre and world class spa. The highlights of the spa are a cascading waterfall inspired by local cenotes, a sky-lit lagoon and a Himalayan salt lounge.

There is also an abundance of activities on offer, such as paddling boarding for families and Paint and Sip wine and painting classes for adults. Kids can go wild in the on-site water park, while adults can keep busy with speciality cooking classes. Business travelers will also find everything they need in the resorts’ 45,00sqft of meeting and conference space, and a 300-seater open air theatre will charm colleagues, employees and clients alike.
