Designed for the X, Y and Z generations: POP Spa and Lounge
Creative Spark finalists at TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR Dubai RDHA and dR Global team up for the spunky tech-centered spa inside Dubai’s Vida Hotel.
The team behind Vida Hotel’s POP Spa and Lounge attended the recent TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR event in Dubai to present their designs as part of the Creative Spark competition.
We take a look at this funky and fresh addition to Dubai’s Vida Hotel.
Creative Spark runners up present POP
The latest installment of the now legendary TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR day-long networking event and conference took place on September 16th in the Dusit Thani Hotel in Dubai.
As is now customary, attendees waited with bated breath to hear all about the latest and greatest designs coming out of Dubai’s hospitality market.
There were, as usual, three projects in the running, and one of these was the POP Spa and Lounge, a fresh new spa and bar concept which will reside inside Dubai’s Vida Hotel.
It was presented by two members of the team behind this funky design, Robert D. Henry from architectural firm RDHA, who specializes in wellness design, and Daniella Russell from dR Global, a wellness spa advisory and consultancy firm.
POP into good health
The design team gave delegates some insight into how they thought about this particular project. The central concept was to create a “quick fix” area for guests’ wellness needs, using the latest bio-centric technology to respond in real time to visitors’ needs.
Pinks, greens and neon colours contrast with solid wood furnishings and marble floors to create a futuristic environment where customer wellbeing takes centre stage.
The designers said of the project, “Working with different generations: Y or Z, this is the future. Different ideas of what a spa is. They like to have a social environment to enjoy. They are a generation that focuses on health and wellbeing.”
This younger demographic will certainly have much to enjoy in this quirky space, which also takes the circle and uses it to inform the area’s structure and layout.
The designers were going for a “clean cut and pure” aesthetic, in which “all the circles used in the design represent the clients’ personality because they don’t like to categorize.”
POP looks, smells and feels good
RDHA and dR Global have created a sumptuous space which not only looks and feels great but smells good too.
The design is centred around bio-centric systems that integrate the latest wellness technology, including circadian lighting that renews and responds to guests’ energy.
Only pure, filtered water is used in all of POP’s treatments and elixirs, and guests can also indulge in some healthy eating at the sushi bar, where the environment is designed with recycled and reclaimed materials.
Creative Spark is a hotel design competition between three architects/interior designers, which is judged by delegates at TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR conferences. Shortlisted finalists present their innovative projects, and further discuss their work as part of a stimulating panel discussion.
