As part of our ongoing partnership with TOPHOTELDESIGN, we take a light-hearted look at funny features within hotels that are designed to make us all smile.

Let’s start the year with a smile. This week’s selection involves ten details that made us giggle or say to the person next to us, ‘hey, look at this!’

Lifting the mood

At the TOPHOTELDESIGN office, we’re constantly tagging, categorising and looking through thousands of state-of-the-art interior design images, and every once in a while we find little playful details that surprise us.

This charming effect also happens to guests when wandering around a hotel, which is why designers shouldn’t be afraid to include these sorts of details.

Shall we play a game? We challenge you to find this list of apparently random things in the images below:

  1. A life-sized superhero
  2. A not-so-subtle reference to Star Wars
  3. A gorilla chilling inside a bike trailer with hot-pink headphones
  4. A golden fellow greeting you at the end of a corridor
  5. A unique concierge
  6. A playful suggestion to work out more
  7. A crochet chicken
  8. A messy-haired Barbie
  9. A monkey hanging from a tree
  10. A shower that thinks it’s deeper than it really is
  11. A bent post light
