Design showcase: Top five wine cellars

by | 17 Nov 2021 | Design

We raise a glass to five hotels around the world whose wonderful wine cellars underline their passion for oenology in our latest TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive.

This week, we enter a world of sophistication and flavour – wine cellars.

Designs that age well

A space dedicated exclusively to the protection of wine…who wouldn’t want that?

It’s already interesting enough to visit one on its own, but to have it inside a hotel is a whole new level of experience. It adds depth to the culinary adventure and an amazing opportunity to tell a story with it.

Just like flavour can tell stories, design can too. Today, we’ve handpicked five projects that use this design opportunity to their advantage.

JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa was chosen for its special circular layout that allows visitors to seamlessly flow through the area.

Blue Lagoon Iceland for the way it is embedded into the rocky landscapes of the Reykjanes Unesco Global Geopark, an idea that continues through the whole project.

The St Regis Langkawi for its sophisticated and fresh cool-and-warm colour schemes.

Loisium Wine & Spa Hotel Langenlois for its minimal but impressive and intriguing take on the historic 900-year-old subterranean network.

And Soneva Kiri for its beautiful organic-shaped walls and flooring that bring back the essence of ancient cavas while seeming incredibly modern.
