Design concept: Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre

For our latest TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive, we take a look inside one of the UAE’s most prestigious ultra-luxury hotels, Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre.
This landmark hotel, occupying the 18th to 55th floors of the Burj Daman mixed-use development, boasts a striking design aesthetic.
Heritage-inspired contemporary design
First opening its doors in the summer of 2019, when it joined two other Waldorf Astoria properties in the UAE, this 275-key hotel made an immediate impression with its lavish amenities, skyline views and creative approach. RMJM Dubai D3 worked on the property’s architectural design, while Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates weaved its magic on the interiors.
From the reception on the building’s 18th floor, guests are led to a series of wellness and dining facilities, and up to the 275 guestrooms, which include 46 suites and 28 residential suites. From here, floor-to-ceiling windows offer unobstructed views of the downtown Dubai skyline.
Interiors – inspired by the sophisticated urban living of Rome and New York City in the ‘50s and ‘60s – are decorated with marble, bronze, brass and ebony, exhibiting a sleek and contemporary look.
From the Big Apple to the French Riviera
During a stay, guests can dine at the stylish Bull & Bear, which is a nod to the original restaurant of the same name in Waldorf Astoria New York, or at the colourful French Riviera-style rooftop lounge St Trop serving drinks and light bites. The sophisticated Peacock Alley lounge and bar, moreover, takes its inspiration from the daily promenade of the original colonnade connecting The Waldorf and The Astoria hotels in the Big Apple.
Elsewhere, Waldorf Astoria Spa provides a sanctuary for guests 18 storeys above the city’s streets. Facilities in this tranquil space include a flotation tank, hydrobath, hammam and Vichy shower, as well as four treatment suites. Other noteworthy corners of the ultra-luxury hotel include a library concept housing an open kitchen, spacious meeting rooms, a grand ballroom with pre-function area and a boardroom.
Each space at Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre is designed to have a residential feel, ensuring guests feel right at home during their stay.
