Our latest TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive takes a closer look at a stylish lobby revamp and the introduction of a new F&B concept at the Kempinski-branded hotel in 2018.

Costa del Sol institution Kempinski Hotel Bahía is reaping the rewards of a major refresh.

Updating Kempinski’s elegant hotel

Designed by Melvin Villarroel, Kempinski Hotel Bahía first launched in 1999, and quickly made a name for itself in one of Europe’s most popular destinations for sunseekers. After a brief closure for renovations, the 145-key property reopened in 2018, showcasing a completely transformed lobby filled with opulent flourishes and an exciting new F&B concept, El Paseo del Mar, brought to life by Ákos Bara.

El Paseo del Mar, which was created by Zsidai Gastronomy Group in collaboration with Kempinski Hotel Bahía, comprises three distinct F&B venues: Baltazár Bar & Grill, Spíler Beach Club and Black Rose The Bar. Each one boasts a strong design focus, with interiors that captivate and inspire guests in equal measure.

Striking new culinary venues

Baltazár Bar & Grill aims to feel like an urban bodega, serving Spanish classics that use local ingredients along with grilled fish and meats in a space commanding views over the hotel’s pools and gardens.

Meanwhile, Spíler Beach Club is light, fresh and elegant in style, with a laidback and playful feel. Fresh ingredients from both land and sea, sourced from the region’s best fishermen and farmers, take centre stage here at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

And Black Rose The Bar lies alongside the renovated lobby, featuring decor celebrating the spirit and soul of travel. This bar, named after the Black Rose pirate ship, serves local craft beers, fine wines and creative cocktails with a view of the sea.
