Another TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive, we delve into the inspiration behind an attractive boutique hotel with 25 suites and two private villas in the Cyclades.

This stylish property showcases architecture by K-Studio and interiors from Studio Bonarchi.

An inviting destination

The 2021-opened Kalesma hotel in Mykonos certainly lives up to its name, which means ‘inviting’ in Greek, as a privately owned boutique property with just 25 suites and two villas in a collection of picturesque whitewashed houses on a slope leading down to Ornos Bay. These properties have been designed to reflect the look and feel of a traditional village and elevate the guest experience by creating a neighbourhood vibe.

Combining tradition with contemporary design, the hotel is inspired by Cycladic architecture and decorated inside to provide a sleek, minimalist style highlighting locally sourced materials. Remarkably, every part of the hotel offers sea views.

Architect K-Studio and interior designer Studio Bonarchi pay homage to traditional craftsmanship through their work, putting Greek elements into a contemporary context and taking inspiration from the island’s laidback glamour.

A luxury Mykonian retreat

Travellers are accommodated in spacious suites and villas, all with private heated pools, terraces and unobstructed views over the sea. Each space features original artwork and a range of amenities, including a freestanding bathtub and outdoor shower.

The suites can sleep up to three adults, or two adults and two children, at a time. And in a nice touch, guests staying here can arrange in-room spa treatments and private yoga, pilates or personal training sessions to enhance their sense of wellbeing.

In terms of the villas, one has three bedrooms while the other comes with four. Both feature an open-plan living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen – with a private chef available if required – as well as a fitness room.

Kalesma Mykonos also contains modern destination restaurant PERE UBU, focusing on seasonal and local produce, and home to a wood-fired oven. This establishment overlooks the scheme’s infinity pool and is the social hub of the property, offering innovative cocktails to guests. In addition, the hotel boasts a relaxing sunset lounge, Aloni.
