Our latest TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive takes us inside the revamp of Hilton Frankfurt City Centre, which was supported by design studio THDP.

A property that’s garnered widespread acclaim for its design, this new-look Hilton hotel lives up to Frankfurt’s global status as an important financial hub.

Made for city living global travellers

Hilton Frankfurt City Centre started its refurbishment programme in 2018, with work completing last year, according to Premier Hospitality International. In its prime downtown location, the hotel now draws on Frankfurt’s reputation as ‘Mini Manhattan’ or ‘Mainhatten’ to reflect the style of city-living global travellers.

THDP had been given an ‘Urban Loft Living’ brief by Jeremy Whyntie of Hilton Global Services, taking inspiration from the way that Frankfurt’s skyline resembles New York and the fact that the Main river is the focal point of the city. Based around this design concept, guestrooms now pair soft colours, timber panelling and leather detailed woven fabrics with the latest technologies, modern light fittings and artwork that gives a glimpse into local culture, fashion and the arts.

New York-inspired public spaces

The refreshed lobby, check-in and lobby bar ties in with this same design style, with an expanded dining area that contributes to the bar and lounge area’s new chapter as a lifestyle destination for both guests and locals. And the check-in area’s new pods incorporate Rosso Levanto marble, copper mesh and walnut veneer to resemble the concierge desk of a New York residential high-rise.

The hotel’s remodelled public areas are bolstered by the inclusion of Park I Restaurant Terrace, Terrace on the Park, The Gekkos and the new Hudson Yards Bar, which is designed to look and feel like a classic bar in New York, featuring brass gantry shelving, custom counter lights, brass foot stops and a Rancilio Barista Machine.

Hudson Yards Bar’s all-day offering

At Hudson Yards Bar, an adaptable back bar acts as a daytime destination for coffee and cakes before becoming the setting for cocktails by night. Here, a focus on leathers, veneers, Verdi Alpi marble and brass aims to give the space a sense of heritage.

Among the hotel’s other amenities are a 25-metre swimming pool, wellness facilities such as a sauna and steam bath, and 16 conference and banqueting rooms. Meanwhile, the property’s event space includes a large pillar-free ballroom, which along with its pre-function area, is located in a part of the building featuring mosaic covered tiling.

All of the finishing works were overseen by Hagenauer.

The recent renovation has made this one of the most popular hotels in Frankfurt. Havwoods‘ popular HW16006 Bronzo from its Italian Collection completes this stunning refurbishment.
