Our latest TOPHOTELDESIGN exclusive looks at Grand Park Hotel Rovinj, a stunning design-focused scheme brought to life by a team that included Studio 3LHD and Lissoni & Partners.

This hotel’s 2019 opening marked the completion of Adris Grupa’s Monte Mulini area building project, widely considered one of the Adriatic’s most luxurious tourist hotspots.

A significant tourism development for Croatia

Monte Mulini lies within the vicinity of Rovinj Old Town and is home to a number of stylish hotels. Adris Grupa invested 1.5 billion kuna (US$236 million) building this area in a bid to transform Rovinj into a luxury tourism destination.

Grand Park Hotel Rovinj, which opened in April 2019 after beginning to take shape in 2017, was the largest part of this investment and a project that the Government of the Republic of Croatia declared a strategic tourism project. The spectacular five-star property is part of the Maistra Collection.

Design that connects guests to their surroundings

To create the scheme, Croatian architectural practice Studio 3LHD drew on the hotel’s location and terrain for the cascading structural style, with green rooftops covering an area of 10,000 sq m, helping it blend into the surroundings.

Pierro Lissoni’s Milan studio Lissoni Architecture handled the property’s interiors, meanwhile, giving special attention to detail and the choice of natural materials in its Mediterranean-inspired design. Dark blue runs throughout the hallways and lighter colours fill each room. In addition, the hotel showcases work by various artists who’ve spent time in Rovinj.

Adding to the property’s unique appeal, the Bruketa&Žinić&Grey agency designed the hotel’s visual identity, encouraging guests to experience Rovinj for themselves through elements like the smart leatherbound notebooks, which they’re encouraged to use as travel diaries.

Grand Park Hotel Rovinj’s standout facilities

Altogether, the hotel houses 193 guestrooms and 16 suites, all of which span the property’s six lower floors. Every room has a spacious terrace with greenery, providing views of the sea and old town, while many also come with hydro-massage pools.

Grand Park Hotel Rovinj’s shared swimming pools, lobby and reception area, as well as its restaurants and conference halls, are on the building’s higher floors. The scheme is home to six F&B venues in total, ranging from signature dining spot Cap Aureo, which overlooks the old town and marina, and the luxurious Viva Eufemia Lobby Bar to the laidback Cissa Pool Bar, main restaurant Laurel & Berry, Primi Terreni Restaurant & Delicatessen and Katarina’s Patisserie.

The hotel also has what is claimed to be the largest and most luxurious spa in Istria. Àlbaro Spa & Wellness spans 3,800 sq m of indoor and outdoor space across two floors, including an attractive area with three outdoor pools.
