New Curio Collection property to be the first internationally branded hotel in Santiago de Los Caballeros.

Hilton’s Curio Collection welcomes a new 177-key hotel in the Dominican Republic, the first property under the group’s soft brand in the country.

The hotel is part of Hilton’s Caribbean expansion strategy. We find out more.

Curio Collection to land in the Dominican Republic

The president of the Dominican Republic was on hand to welcome Hilton’s Curio Collection to his country at a groundbreaking and signing ceremony in Santiago de Los Caballeros.

This property is due to open in 2022 and will form part of the new Santiago Centre, a mixed-use complex that will appeal to the Dominican Republic’s fast-growing tourism industry. Tourism makes up 17% of the nation’s GDP and over 6.5m people visited the Dominican Republic in 2018.

The hotel is located in the country’s largest territory, El Cibao, and will be the first internationally branded hotel in Santiago, the Dominican Republic’s second city. Guests will be able to visit local highlights, which include Monumento de Santiago, Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes and the J. Armando Bermudez National Park.

Miguel Barletta from Green Earth Investments Ltd., the hotel’s owner, spoke of the project, saying, “As the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic, Santiago de los Caballeros continues to drive the country’s economic and cultural development, as a leading producer of tobacco, rum and cacao.”

“We are excited to contribute to the area’s economic growth by forming part of Curio Collection’s portfolio of distinct and independent hotels, and together with Hilton, introducing travellers to the sophisticated comfort of Hotel Santiago,” he elaborated.

Hilton grows with Hotel Santiago

The property, to be named Hotel Santiago, will add to Hilton’s portfolio of properties in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Currently operating 150 hotels across the region, Hilton aims to celebrate its 100th anniversary by developing a further 100 hotels in this market, 20 of which will bolster the group’s 20-strong presence in the Caribbean alone.

“With the Caribbean’s continued tourism growth, we are focused on furthering our brand’s portfolio to meet travellers’ demands in key markets across the region, such as the Dominican Republic,” said Jenna Hackett, global head, Curio Collection by Hilton.

“With the signing of Hotel Santiago, we look forward to introducing a unique hotel experience that will create memorable moments for guests while immersing them in the destination’s rich culture.”
