W São Paulo

A W Hotels-branded luxury scheme with a rooftop infinity pool takes star billing in the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database for Brazil, where 58 projects are on the cards.

Our in-house research team reports that South America’s largest country has 58 schemes with 12,967 rooms in the works.

Living the life of luxury

Brazil really seems to have an affinity with the upper echelons of hospitality if our data is anything to go by. We’ve identified no fewer than 24 hotels and 6,397 keys targeting the five-star market across the country, while a further 34 properties with 6,570 rooms are focusing on the four-star category.

Many of these developments will be delivered sooner rather than later too. In total, 19 projects with 4,297 keys will be up and running this year, and an additional 13 schemes and 2,669 rooms will follow next year. That leaves nine properties and 1,944 keys aiming to complete in 2024, and 17 hotels with 4,057 rooms coming online in 2025 and beyond.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Brazil’s largest city São Paulo is driving the industry forward. With five projects (and 836 keys) in its pipeline, it has significantly more hotel projects on the go than anywhere else in the country, well ahead of nearest challengers Natal (two hotels, 800 rooms) and Recife (two properties, 632 keys).

W Hotels dreams big in São Paulo

It’s impossible to cover the highlights of Brazil’s development slate without mentioning W São Paulo, which is currently under construction and hoping to launch in Q1 2023. Designed by Nini Andrade Silva alongside W Hotels’ team, with Hamam Development contributing to the interiors, this statement scheme will include 179 luxe rooms and suites, two feature restaurants, a lobby bar, a fitness centre, a Wet Deck, 1,500 sq m of meeting space, lush gardens on the ground floor and an infinity pool on its rooftop.

Also being built out right now in São Paulo is Hilton Garden Inn Sao Jose do Rio Preto, featuring architecture by Ilha Arquitetura and interiors by Triplex Arquitetura, with help from Hamam Development. There’ll be 134 guestooms, a ground-floor restaurant, a 24-hour Pavilion Pantry shop providing convenient food and drink options, a fitness centre and comfortable meeting space. The newbuild scheme in Georgina Business Park is expected to go live in Q3 2022.

Last but not least, work is well underway on transforming Kiaroa Eco-Luxury Resort into Anantara Maraú Bahia Resort. This beautifully situated development on a deserted stretch of Atlantic coastline on the Maraú Peninsula, south of Salvador, will initially comprise 30 rooms, suites and bungalows in a combination of beachfront and garden settings, accompanied by world-class resort facilities. Like Hilton Garden Inn’s latest outpost, it’s planning to be ready in Q3 2022.

Please note, our data may differ from records held by other organisations. Generally, the database focuses on four- and five-star schemes of significant scale; tracks projects in either the vision, pre-planning, planning, under-construction, pre-opening or newly opened phase; and covers newbuilds, extensions, refurbishments and conversions.
