Bangkok is set to welcome the most new properties, with Phuket and Pattaya also due to see an influx of hotel debuts.

Growing the country’s hotel offering

According to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, 120 hotels are on track to opening across Thailand.

Of these projects at various stages of planning and development, 64 hotels with 17,666 rooms between them will be in the four-star category and 56 properties with 12,195 rooms in total are to fall into the five-star category.

This year is set to be particularly busy with 38 hotel openings. Another 22 properties are due to debut in 2023, followed by 18 in 2024 and 42 in 2025 and beyond.

Bangkok will welcome 47 hotels, encompassing 12,089 rooms, during this time. Phuket will benefit from 16 hotel openings, altogether comprising 3,383 rooms, and Pattaya will benefit from 15 hotels with 4,896 rooms between them.

Dominant brand contributing to this growth include Citadines apart’hotels, which is to open five hotels with 945 rooms across the country; InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, which has five hotels encompassing 932 rooms planned; and Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, which is opening four hotels with 2,334 rooms.

Entries to Phuket

Exciting properties that are set to make their debut in Thailand include Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach, which is due to open early 2023, and the late 2022 opening Tri Vananda in Phuket.

Radisson Phuket Mai Khao Beach is located on Phuket’s northwest shores, just 15 minutes from Phuket International Airport, and will provide direct access to Mai Khao Beach. On completion, the resort will encompass 222 rooms and suites.

This accommodation will be complemented by amenities such as a large outdoor lagoon pool, well-equipped fitness centre, spa, kid’s club and dining options including an all-day dining destination, specialty restaurant and lobby lounge. Events will be hosted in two meeting rooms.

Tri Vananda will then accommodate guests in a sprawling hillside setting, around 20 minutes from Phuket International Airport, that’s dotted with lakes and gardens. The 298-key property will comprise villas and a wellness resort focusing on integrative and functional medicine and cognitive wellbeing.

Amenities at the property will span a health centre with consultation rooms, physiotherapy and TCM treatment rooms, a cognitive health centre, facilities for health diagnostics and a mindfulness centre on the lake.

The lakeside spa will house thermal rooms, relaxation areas, a hammam, private spa suites and a fitness centre with a 50-metre swimming pool, juice bar and lake pier for water sports.

Families will be catered for with a dedicated club for teens and pre-teens that fosters a wellness-led lifestyle.
