Going through the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that Brazil’s hotel sector will grow steadily in the years ahead, with megacity São Paulo leading the way.

Brazil’s hotel market is set to grow by 70 properties and 15,044 rooms in the coming years, our research indicates. We take a closer look at the country’s development slate and consider which new schemes are worth keeping an eye out for.

Upcoming hotel openings in Brazil by year

For the remainder of 2021, 15 projects with 2,687 rooms are expected to open their doors.

Another 19 properties are due for completion in 2022, bringing 4,474 additional rooms into play. For 2023, 13 new hotels with 2,680 keys are already in the works, while 23 more schemes and 5,203 rooms have been mooted for 2024 and beyond.

Of Brazil’s 70 ongoing projects, 25 will be in the five-star segment, while the other 45 are targeting the four-star market.

Top growth markets in Brazil

São Paulo, South America’s largest city, will get ten new hotels with 1,617 rooms.

This puts it well ahead of tourism magnet Rio de Janeiro, which will only grow its offering by four projects and 699 keys. Finally, three properties with 785 rooms will open in the popular resort of Gramado.

Key hotel brands expanding in Brazil

Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos has ambitious plans in Brazil – it intends to launch no fewer than ten properties with 3,522 rooms.

Elsewhere, Radisson Hotels & Resorts has four upcoming openings scheduled, which will grow its local footprint by 599 keys. And Bristol Hotels has three hotels with 498 rooms on the cards.

Brazil’s most noteworthy hotel openings

The much-anticipated Golden Gramado Laghetto Resort has just launched outside Gramado. This 345-key scheme has delivered an attractive mix of rooms and apartments, as well as swimming pools, whirlpools, game rooms and a cinema. Saunas with a minibar and a solarium, a lounge with a fireplace, and a pub with panoramic views complete the offering.

São Paulo, meanwhile, is getting ready for the launch of an exciting new hotel in early 2022. Luxury lifestyle brand Nobu will mark its debut in South America with the launch of the 150-room Nobu Hotel São Paulo, combining elements of a hotel, residences and fine-dining destination. It’ll also feature a rooftop bar and pool, event spaces, and a fitness and health centre.

Last but not least, Thermas São Pedro Park Resort will be completed by late 2024, covering an area of more than 31,000 sq m a short drive north-west of São Paulo. Four five-storey buildings will house 465 furnished apartments, each containing a bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom. In addition, guests will be able to avail themselves of extensive lifestyle and leisure facilities, including restaurants, adult and children’s water parks, hot tubs, playgrounds, games rooms, a gym, a sauna and a spa.
