Country overview: 13,000 new hotel rooms planned in Qatar [Infographic]
A look into the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that Qatar’s hotel market is set to grow rapidly in the coming years, especially in the luxury segment.
Currently, there are 46 hotel schemes with 12,999 rooms in Qatar’s pipeline, according to our researchers. We take a closer look at some of the most noteworthy openings on the horizon.
Year-by-year breakdown of Qatari hotel projects
In the remainder of 2021, 22 launches are due to bring 5,646 new rooms into play.
Another 17 projects with 5,677 rooms are on the cards for completion by 2022, while 2023 is currently looking very quiet, with only one 200-room scheme expected to be ready during the year. In 2024 and beyond, six new hotels and 1,476 keys are already on the country’s development slate.
Of Qatar’s 46 new hotels, 19 will be in the four-star segment – the remaining 27 fall into the luxury category.
In terms of cities, meanwhile, Doha will see by far the most new openings. The capital can look forward to welcoming 35 hotels with 9,154 rooms in the coming years. Lusail, the planned coastal city just a short drive north of Qatar, will get nine new properties with 3,631 keys.
Hotel openings to watch in Qatar
Corinthia Hotels is the fastest growing brand in the country, with two new hotels and 310 rooms on the way, our data suggests. Nevertheless, several other high-profile brands also have exciting plans for Qatar..
Raffles Lusail Hotel & Residences, for example, will open in early 2022. This landmark scheme will form part of a dual-branded property alongside Fairmont Lusail Hotel & Residences, with the duo sharing the breath-taking Katara Towers. At Raffles’ latest outpost, 181 luxurious rooms, suites and residences will offer guests splendid views of the sea and access to a host of lifestyle amenities like water parks, a man-made beach and expansive gardens.
Back in the capital, the 235-key ME Doha will launch in late 2021 as part of the DohAlive mixed-use project. The hotel will provide business and convention facilities, a fitness centre and a spa with an infinity pool overlooking the city’s skyline. Three restaurants, a nightclub, an open-air cinema and three bars will also be housed within the property.
Last but not least, and set close to Doha’s shore, Al Mana Edition Hotel West Bay will offer 200 rooms across floors 19 to 47 of a 48-storey tower. Edition Hotels, the brainchild of hospitality visionary Ian Schrager and Marriott International, is planning to incorporate an impressive range of facilities here, including restaurants, shops, a swimming pool, meeting venues and ballrooms.
