Check out Copenhagen’s coolest hotel designs
There is an area in Copenhagen, Denmark called the Latin Quarter, where, in the heart of a vibrant city, one will find the area’s most colorful neighborhood, overflowing with foodie restaurants, hip cafes, happening bars, and a seemingly endless abundance of shops that sell vintage items and clothes. You will, of course, also find one of Copenhagen’s coolest lodging options — Hotel SP34.
Billed by many as The Latin Quarter’s finest boutique hotel, Hotel SP34 matches modern styles with mid-century Danish furnishings. It also has a friendly staff and a bohemian vibe, as well as three restaurants for guests to choose from. What adds to this hotel’s irrespressible sense of cool, however, is its fantastic location near the city’s most popular tourist attractions, attractions such as Nyhavn Harbour, which is a 20-minute walkaway, and the historic village of Indre By, as well as the palace complex of Amailenborg. Even closer the Tivoli Gardens, which is just around the corner and one of the continent’s oldest amusement parks.
That is, however, not to say that the interior of Hotel SP34 is anything to scoff at. The hotel itself consists of three townhouses, which some travel writers have called a masterclass in Danish design. Many boutique hotels advertise themselves as having a feel that matches their locations, but Hotel SP34 really does accomplish this, possessing a lively atmosphere that is very much in keeping with the bohemian area it lies within. Guests also love its airy work space and bar, which has high ceilings and solid wood floors, plus floor-to-ceiling bookshelves replete with books, potted plants, and artful tidbits and curios.
Perhaps the best feature found within the Hotel SP34, though, is the natural light that washes in over its polished concrete floors, beneath the chandelier-esque light bulbs that hang from its ceilings over the raised benches that line some of the wonderful public spaces.
And while the public spaces are always a nice bonus for a hotel as cool as SP34, what matters most is what one finds within the 118 rooms that are spread throughout five floors, ranging from single standard rooms that are 12 square meters to the spacious penthouse that encompasses 50 square meters of pure, unadulterated luxury living. All of the rooms in this hotel are Scandinavian in design, complete with stripped floorboards, neutral walls, and pristine white linens. Guests enjoy the leather chairs and sturdy work desks. The bathrooms in this hotel are covered in white tile, and they come complete with a nice range of REN toiletries as well as soft white towels.
While yes, Hotel SP34 is among the coolest hotels in all of Copenhagen, it is, of course far from the only cool hotel in such a vibrant city. Other excellent choices for those looking to spend a weekend, or perhaps longer, in Copenhagen include Nimb Hotel and Andersen Hotel, which provide different styles than Hotel SP34, but are no less comfortable for a weary traveler.
