Noteworthy hotel projects in Shanghai

The five-star Shanghai Tower J Hotel will be the centrepiece of the stunning Shanghai Tower, which is being built in the central business district of Lujiazui next to the Shanghai World Financial Centre and Jin Mao Tower. Upon completion, Shanghai Tower will be China’s tallest building, rising a staggering 121 storeys high; as a ‘vertical city’, it aims to set new standards in design as well. Shanghai’s J Hotel, the new ultra-luxury brand of Chinese hotel group Jin Jiang, will feature a lobby on the 101st floor and 240 guest rooms spanning floors 84 to 110. The opening date is currently scheduled for late 2020.

Meanwhile, Citadines Putuo Shanghai is part of a 15,000 sq m development comprising high-end residences, business centres, education facilities and more. Three metro lines are only a short walk away, while Nanjing West Road Central Business District, Shanghai Train Station, Hongqiao High Speed Rail Station and Hongqiao Airport can easily be reached by car. The serviced residence will offer 160 units ranging from one-bedroom to three-bedroom apartments; guests can avail themselves of a gym, yoga room, residents’ lounge, children’s play area and other facilities. The property will go live in late 2020.

The 200-room Rosewood Shanghai, by contrast, will occupy the top floors of a new skyscraper in the centrally located Suhe Creek area – it’s due for completion in 2028. Set in one of the most exciting and dynamic neighbourhoods of Shanghai, the hotel’s prominent location will provide stunning views of the Huangpu River and the city’s iconic skyline, plus easy access to the famous Bund promenade, Nanjing Road commercial area, People’s Square, Jing’an Temple and Shanghai Exhibition Centre.
