City overview: Over 100 new hotels on the cards in London [Infographic]

The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows that an impressive 109 hotel schemes are expected to go live across the UK capital in the coming years.

London is already one of the world’s biggest hotel markets, but our researchers report that lots more properties will soon join them despite the twin challenges of Covid and Brexit. We’re currently tracking the progress of 109 projects with 18,158 rooms between them.

Years of growth for London’s hotel market

In 2021, 41 properties with 5,697 rooms will launch in London, of which 15 are already in the pre-opening phase. Another 23 hotels with 3,798 keys are set to be ready in 2022, followed by a further 11 projects and 2,136 rooms in 2023, and 34 openings and 6,527 keys in 2024 and beyond.

A total of 67 four-star properties are on the city’s development slate at present, while the remaining 42 hotels are firmly in the five-star category.

London’s three fastest growing hotel brands

First place in our rankings goes to the funky StayCity ApartHotels brand, which will open three serviced-apartment properties with 887 keys between them over the coming years.

This puts it ahead of Art’otel and Curio – A Collection by Hilton, which are both planning two new hotels, with 503 and 436 new rooms respectively.

New London hotels to keep an eye on

The striking Art’otel London Hoxton will boast a unique design by Squire and Partners to draw guests in and encourage them to explore. On the 27-storey tower’s lower floors, visitors will find a vast gallery space, where a rotating calendar of exhibitors will ensure there’s always something new to discover. On the top floors, meanwhile, a lounge, bar, gym and destination restaurant will boast dazzling skyline views. This 343-room hotel is set to open in early 2023.

Between Hoxton and Shoreditch, the 210-room London Tech City Quarter Hotel will launch within a 23-storey tower from late 2023. Apart from this eye-catching hospitality scheme, the building will also house a vast coworking and office space – and hotel guests and workspace members will share several facilities and services.

Lastly, and right on the river, Park Hyatt London River Thames – One Nine Elms will offer guests a luxury stay experience from late 2022. Amenities at the much-anticipated 203-room property will include a luxury spa, ballroom and clubhouse restaurant. The hotel will be part of the larger One Nine Elms development, which will also include private residences.
