A look at the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows that the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh boasts an impressive project pipeline full of big-name brands.

In the coming years, 42 new hotel schemes with 9,689 rooms will open in Riyadh, our research has revealed. We take a closer look at this impressive development slate – and zero in on some of the most stunning projects.

Riyadh’s hotel openings by year

In the second half of 2021, 16 hotels with 3,140 rooms are slated to go live.

For 2022, another ten projects with 2,332 keys are due for completion. After that, eight more openings with 2,444 rooms are on the books for 2023, while a further eight have been pencilled in for 2024 and beyond.

Of Riyadh’s 42 new hotels, 23 will be in the four-star category. The remaining 19 fall into the five-star luxury segment.

Top hotel brands expanding in Riyadh

Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts is currently working on three projects with 484 keys in total.

This puts Radisson Hotel Group’s upper-upscale brand narrowly ahead of a pair of Hilton Worldwide stalwarts. Hilton Garden Inn and Hilton Hotels & Resorts will each grow their presence by two properties, with 760 and 458 keys respectively.

Riyadh’s most impressive new hotel projects

World-famous lifestyle brand Nobu will make its debut in Saudi Arabia in Q3 2021. The brand has signed a deal with local partner Dhaliliyah Investments to realise the 120-room Nobu Hotel Riyadh project, which will – of course – feature a signature Nobu restaurant. While Dhaliliyah will handle the architectural work, Rockwell Group from Spain has been tasked with the interior design.

Elsewhere, and set in a new mixed-use complex, Sofitel Riyadh – King Abdullah Foundation Hotel will launch alongside a convention centre, a mosque and the foundation’s head office in Q3 2022. The property will offer 388 rooms, six F&B outlets, meeting facilities, a swimming pool, a spa and additional recreational amenities. Saudi Diyar Consultants and Richmond Design are working together to create what promises to be a stunning addition to the city’s skyline.

And finally, once open in early 2022, Novotel Riyadh Olaya will offer 215 inviting guestrooms as well as meeting spaces, a fitness centre, wellness facilities and a swimming pool with a deck. An all-day dining venue, a lobby lounge with a café corner and 24/7 room service will ensure guests don’t go hungry. And the hotel’s location close to lively Tahlya Street guarantees convenient access to local restaurants and retail facilities, while King Khaled International Airport is only a 45-minute drive away.
