City overview: Nanjing’s hotel offering to grow by 10,000 rooms [Infographic]

by | 21 Sep 2021 | Pipeline, Projects

A quick look through the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database sheds light on the rapid growth of the hospitality sector in Nanjing, one of China’s cultural powerhouses.

Our research indicates that 46 new hotels with 9,648 rooms are currently in the pipeline for the capital of Jiangsu province. Here, we take a closer look at how the city’s hotel market will develop over the coming years.

Nanjing’s hotel openings by year

The last few months of 2021 will see seven hotels with 1,352 keys open their doors, while a further 14 projects and 2,793 rooms are due to complete in 2022.

However, 2023 will be even busier, with 19 properties and 3,998 keys slated to open. Then for 2024 and beyond, only six schemes and 1,505 rooms have been logged so far – but more will likely be announced nearer the time.

Of Nanjing’s 46 new hotels, 26 have been earmarked for the four-star category. The other 20 are firmly targeting the luxury five-star segment.

Stunning new hotels coming to Nanjing soon

Starting off with a five-star lifestyle property, the 300-key W Hotel Nanjing Huaqiao City will launch only a short distance from top attractions like Xuanwu Lake, Nanjing Botanical Garden Mem Sun Yat-sen and Purple Mountain by mid-2022. Its impressive architectural design will be based on traditional features such as gateways, lamps and folding fans. Guests will find these elements recurring throughout the property’s facilities, which include fitness and wellness spaces, as well as conference and event rooms.

Just down the road, Hualuxe Hotel Nanjing Qinhuai South will open its doors in early 2023. This 200-room property will be geared primarily towards corporate travellers who will no doubt appreciate its proximity to major employers and the fact that it incorporates extensive onsite meeting and events facilities.

Later that year, meanwhile, Nanjing Marriott Hotel Agile Huigang City will make its debut in the same neighbourhood. Set in the Nanjing Binjiang Free Trade Zone along the Yangtze River, this 200-key hotel will be part of a major mixed-use development, complete with residential towers, office buildings, luxury retail outlets and even a theme park.
