City overview: Dubai plans over 160 hotels in coming years [Infographic]
Dubai’s pipeline is ambitious as ever with over 160 planned openings.
Despite the global hospitality industry being impacted by the Covid19 corona crisis, dynamic markets like Dubai are looking ahead.
Dubai has made a name for itself in the international hospitality and tourism sector thanks to the extreme density of luxury hotels on offer in the city.
And even though one might think that Dubai’s hotel market is already well-established, new players are still crowding in, wanting a piece of this pie.
We find out more about this ambitious city’s hotel pipeline and which properties to watch out for.
Busy years lie ahead for Dubai’s hotel market
According to the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION online database, 160 hotels with 50,460 rooms are slated to open in Dubai. 81 of them will be in the four-star segment while the remaining 79 will be 5-star properties:
66 openings with 22,673 rooms are currently planned for 2020, however many of them may need to be postponed until 2021 in light of the international COVID-19 pandemic.
Even without spillover from 2020, 36 new hotels with 10,473 rooms will launch in 2021. Another 20 hotels scheduled for 2022 while 38 are on the books for 2023 and beyond.
Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts are planning to open 5 properties with a total of 1,260 rooms, making them the city’s fastest-growing hotel brand. Rove Hotels and Rotana Hotels & Resorts follow with 4 hotels in their respective pipelines.
Noteworthy hotel projects in Dubai
The 800-room Riu Beachfront Resort & Waterpark Deira Islands will be the Emirate’s newest all-inclusive offering. This hotel will be part of a venture made up of four islands that will transform the district of Deira into a top tourism and entertainment site. It will include other attractions such as a shopping mall, design towers, an amphitheatre for 30,000 people and a marina. Other components planned for the property include four swimming pools, a kids’ club, a spa and fitness centre, and a variety of restaurants.
Originally planned for late 2020, the 289-room St. Regis Dubai, The Palm will offer luxurious rooms and suites overlooking the Palm Jumeirah. One of its two swimming pools will be on the 50th floor, making it one of the world’s highest infinity pools. It will be some 210 meters above ground and border all four sides of the building for a 360-degree view of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai skyline. Set to become one of the most desirable addresses on The Palm, the hotel will also offer distinct dining experiences, including a signature restaurant with sweeping city views on the 51st floor and an all-day restaurant.
The Hotel Indigo Dubai Business Bay will be in the upcoming Business Bay District, a large mixed-use community and only a stone’s throw from the world-renowned Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and the emerging Design District. The 283-room hotel will feature an infinity pool boasting views of the world’s tallest building, a fitness centre, an all-day dining restaurant, delicatessen, a specialty restaurant and bar as well as meeting spaces.
One&Only One Za’abeel will feature 200 exclusive and versatile guest rooms and suites which can be perfectly customised to personal preferences. Everything from an art studio to a childrens’ suite is possible here.
