Shenzhen’s hotel market will see steady growth in the next few years as international brands expand their presence in the city, according to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database.

By diving into the data, we can see that Shenzhen’s hotel market will grow by 32 properties and 7,760 keys in the coming years. We take a closer look at the new hotels slated to open in this economic powerhouse of 21st-century China.

Steady growth lies ahead

Shenzhen’s hotel market will expand consistently in the next few years. Seven properties are in the final stages of development for 2020 and will add 1,951 rooms to the city’s hotel offering.

Seven more hotels are in the pipeline for 2021, bringing 1,814 extra rooms, while 2022 will see ten new properties and 2,389 keys launch. Seven additional schemes are currently on the books for 2023 and beyond.

Of the 32 upcoming launches, half will be in the five-star category while the other half will be four-star affairs.

Shenzhen’s top three growing brands

As an important economic hub, Shenzhen has been expanding rapidly in recent years. With business booming in both the city and its surroundings, perhaps it’s no surprise that local and international hotel chains are building their presence here.

Turning to individual brands, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Ravinne Hotels & Resorts and Somerset Serviced Residences are each opening two new properties in Shenzhen. Marriott leads the list in terms of room count with 500 additional keys, narrowly ahead of Ravinne (494) and Somerset (433).

The 549-key Crowne Plaza Shenzhen Nanshan is the largest property currently in Shenzhen’s pipeline, the database indicates. Slated to open in Q2 2021 and set in the Nanshan area, the hotel will be close to a business hub and offer corporate travellers everything they need to make their work trip a success. From top-notch in-room technology and a state-of-the-art business centre to modern conference spaces, everything will be on hand to maximise productivity, while a fine F&B offering and generous spa should help guests switch off and relax after a long day.

Elsewhere, Marriott Shenzhen Longgang will be part of the Kaisa Central Plaza and occupy floors 39 to 52 in the development’s main tower. The 300 elegant rooms will overlook the bustling business district and offer a variety of amenities tailored to the needs of today’s corporate traveller, and those who want to stay fit and relaxed while on the road will doubtless enjoy the modern fitness centre and spa area. The opening is planned for Q2 2022.

Turning our attention next to the much-hyped Rosewood Shenzhen, this property will be conveniently situated on Shannan Boulevard. Its central location will provide easy access to key commercial areas, sports and entertainment venues as well as the city’s growing number of cultural institutions. From Q2 2022, the 300-room scheme will cater to both business travellers and affluent explorers eager to see the city’s artistic, architectural and culinary offerings. The hotel will feature four distinct restaurants and bars as well as 1,250 sq m of meeting and event space, while leisure facilities will include Sense, A Rosewood Spa, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and a state-of-the-art fitness centre.

Finally, located in the centre of the city’s rapidly developing Qianhai CBD, the 300-room Conrad Shenzhen forms part of a comprehensive development project in the Horoy Qianhai Centre due for completion in Q4 2021. This property will offer spacious guest rooms and suites overlooking the ocean, as well as exquisite F&B options appealing to both local and international tastes. Boasting around 2,480 sq m of event space, including a 1,200 sq m ballroom, Conrad Shenzhen is being positioned as the perfect venue to host exclusive social events as well as executive functions, meetings and conferences.
