The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that bold schemes from the likes of Thompson Hotels and Motto by Hilton are in the works across Georgia’s state capital.

Atlanta will see 30 new four- and five-star hotel projects start welcoming guests in the next few years, according to our researchers. We take a closer look at these upcoming openings.

Hotel launches by year in Atlanta

In the last couple of months of 2021, six properties with 941 rooms are due to go live around the city. Next year, another eight hotels with 1,675 keys are slated to open, while a further six scheduled launches will bring 1,158 rooms into play in 2023. For 2024 and beyond, ten more projects and 2,475 extra keys have already been pencilled in.

Of the city’s 30 planned schemes, just over two-thirds (21) will be in the four-star sector and the rest (nine) fall into the five-star category.

Hot hotel openings planned in Atlanta

With an opening date set for this month, Thompson Buckhead will be the first on our rundown of noteworthy properties to make its debut. The 201-room hotel is designed to have the atmosphere of a luxurious private home, complete with an intimate jewel-box bar, local artwork, abundant greenery and a characterful lobby. It’ll boast a three-meal restaurant, a rooftop bar and lounge with sweeping city views, and a variety of meeting spaces totalling more than 10,000 sq ft.

Just a few blocks over, Dream Atlanta Buckhead will open by mid-2022. The dual-tower development will feature 200 spacious rooms and suites, private residences, a dynamic spa and wellness concept, and five dining and nightlife venues, including a 17,000 sq ft rooftop pool bar and lounge. Guests will benefit from easy access to popular shopping districts and historic neighbourhoods known for their stunning architecture and tree-lined streets.

While its opening date has yet to be announced, the 146-key Motto by Hilton Atlanta Old Fourth Ward is already making headlines. Set close to the city’s downtown area, this property will be part of Waldo’s, a modern mixed-use development project. The scheme will include a speakeasy, a full-service restaurant and food stalls in the courtyard.
