29 properties will launch in Wuhan in the coming years to expand the city’s current hospitality offering, the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals.

Our researchers report that the Chinese city of Wuhan has 29 hotels with 6,698 rooms in its pipeline. We find out more about these upcoming launches.

Wuhan’s hotel market on the rise

With the emergence of Covid19, Wuhan has received an enormous amount of international attention recently, albeit not the kind it probably wanted. While this may have temporarily harmed the city’s reputation, the outbreak seems to be under control there and life is largely going back to normal.

This is also reflected in how the city’s hotel market is developing apace. For the remainder of 2020, six hotels are scheduled to open, adding 1,372 rooms. Eight more will launch in 2021, followed by a further five in 2022, while ten hotels are on the books for 2023.

Of the 29 planned openings, 18 will be in the four-star sector, with the other 11 in the five-star category.

Wuhan’s fastest-growing hotel brands

Several international brands are adding properties in Wuhan. However, Four Points by Sheraton, Citadines apart’hotels and Grand Mercure stand out since they will each open two hotels in the city.

Four Points leads the list in terms of room count with 550 keys, followed by Citadines with 425 new rooms and Grand Mercure with 350.

Wuhan’s top hotel projects

The 421-room Wuhan Oceanside Grand Hyatt Hotel, the city’s largest project in our database, will be in the central business district and form part of the Wuhan Centre. The hotel will be on the 64th to 84th floors of this imposing 438-metre skyscraper, offering stunning views of the city and its surroundings, and its lobby will be the highest in central China. The opening date is set for late 2020.

Set in the neighbouring town of Wuchang, meanwhile, Marriott Wuchang Wuhan will be the ideal place to stay for guests visiting or doing business in both cities. This 310-room hotel will be part of the Xiangyang Plaza and is slated for completion in late 2022. Its facilities will include leisure amenities such as lounges and a wellness and fitness area, as well as business-oriented spaces like conference and meeting rooms.

Elsewhere, Wuhan Binjiang Crowne Plaza Hotel will be in the Qingshan District, a quickly developing part of the city that is becoming something of a business hub. At the new Crowne Plaza, guests will find 300 elegant, spacious rooms, plus expansive conference and events facilities, alongside a variety of restaurants and bars. The launch is currently planned for Q2 2021.

Lastly, Four Points by Sheraton Wuhan, Jiangxia will be located in a sprawling southern district of Hubei province’s capital. Government offices are within walking distance, and Wuhan Tianhe International Airport is just one hour away by car. This 300-room hotel will provide 2,000 sq m of meeting and conference space, several restaurants and a bar, as well as a fitness centre, a spa and a heated indoor pool.
