A peek into the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that 23 hotel schemes are being planned across Hamburg, Germany’s top port city.

In the next few years, 23 hotels with 5,625 rooms will come online in Hamburg. We check out what our researchers have found out about these upcoming launches.

Hotel openings by year in Hamburg

One hotel with 236 keys will open in Hamburg before 2020 runs out, the data shows, while three more properties with 548 keys in total will further bolster the city’s offering in 2021.

For 2022, another four hotels with 778 keys are in the pipeline, and 15 more are already on the books for 2023 and beyond.

The majority of the new hotels (16) will be in the four-star category – the remaining seven will be five-star affairs.

Noteworthy hotel projects in Hamburg

Apart from the ‘standard’ openings, Hamburg will see several interesting projects complete over the next few years. Here are three to keep an eye on.

On the outskirts of Hamburg, the Airbus Complex will offer a whopping 27,000 sq m of floor space. This vast development will include an Airbus Welcome and Information Centre as well as restaurants, a supermarket, retail spaces and a hotel. The Airbus Complex Hotel is due for completion in Q2 2022 and will offer 100 rooms, plus a health centre with a gym.

Another unique space will launch in Hamburg’s renowned St Pauli area in Q3 2021. The new 136-key nhow Hamburg St. Pauli will be in the district’s former bunker, a massive concrete structure that is getting a serious facelift both inside and out. The grey structure will incorporate lush greenery on its terraces and balconies on the outside and an expansive park on the rooftop, which will be home to a cafe and restaurant.

And finally, the Hamburg Überseequartier is one of the largest ongoing construction projects in the city, set right by the harbour on the shores of the River Elbe. The ambitious complex will house three Accor hotels, namely a 250-room Pullman, a 170-key Novotel and a 400-room Ibis Styles. These hotels will be spread over a trio of building complexes, each with individual architecture and characteristics, and all are due to complete in Q2 2023.
