A look at the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows that dozens of four- and five-star hotel schemes will complete across the City of Angels in the years ahead.

LA may be best known as the home of the movie industry, but our data indicates that it also has a thriving hotel development market. California’s largest city will welcome 58 new hotel projects with 12,157 rooms in the coming years, according to our research.

Hotel openings in LA by date

The second half of 2021 will see ten hotels (2,201 keys) open their doors – four schemes are in the pre-opening phase right now. A further 14 properties (2,473 rooms) will go live in 2022, followed by ten more projects (1,963 rooms) in 2023, and 24 hotels (5,520 rooms) in 2024 and beyond.

Of the city’s 58 new hotels, 43 will be in the four-star sector. However, it simply wouldn’t be LA without a few new luxury properties in the pipeline – we’re currently tracking 15 aimed at the five-star market.

Top hotel brands expanding in LA

Hyatt Hotels Corporation will open three Hyatt Centric boutique properties with a total of 470 rooms, earning it the coveted title of LA’s most active hotel brand.

CitizenM Hotels is also on a mission to bring more affordable luxury to the city – it has two new projects and 555 rooms on its books.

LA’s most eye-catching hotel schemes

The 272-room Hyatt Place LAX/Century Boulevard will open as part of a dual-branded property alongside Hyatt House LAX later this year. Together, the two hotels will offer an array of shared services and amenities that meet the needs of transient and extended-stay guests, including a rooftop pool, and a restaurant and bar with unprecedented views of Los Angeles International Airport’s runways, downtown LA, the Hollywood Sign, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach.

On Wilcox Avenue, in the heart of Hollywood, Thompson Hollywood will embrace the style of its surroundings. The ground floor of this ten-storey building will host a lobby, restaurant and bar, while the penthouse level will include an outdoor pool with a deck, restaurant and fitness centre – plus a unique vantage point for admiring the Hollywood Sign and downtown LA. The 200-room hotel’s opening date has been set for late 2021.

Just a few streets over, Hotel Schrader will launch in early 2023. This 191-key property will occupy an 11-storey tower, with the ground floor featuring retail space, a restaurant and a café. From its rooftop pool and amenity deck, meanwhile, guests will be able to enjoy fantastic vistas of the Hollywood Hills, the city and the surrounding landscape.
