This unique Curio Collection by Hilton hotel, designed by KOO, is now open on one of Chicago’s most historic landmarks.

The new Sable at Navy Pier is Curio Collection by Hilton’s 100th property and a major addition to the brand’s portfolio of unique hotels in prime locations around the world.

A milestone property for Chicago

A hospitality scheme like no other, Sable at Navy Pier is the first hotel to host guests on one of the city’s greatest landmarks. From here, guests are afforded extraordinary views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline.

This hotel is developed and operated by Maverick Hotels and Restaurants and led by Acron USA. The newly opened property now joins Navy Pier’s many restaurants and boutiques, as well as Offshore, which the Guinness Book of World Records recognises as the World’s Largest Rooftop Bar.

Sable at Navy Pier draws inspiration from the past

The hotel takes its name from a historic vessel, the USS Sable, whose homeport was Navy Pier, paying tribute to the site’s past as a training centre for the United States Navy’s new recruits during World War II.

“I could not be more thrilled to be at the helm of such a unique and monumental hotel,” said Laurent Boisdron, general manager of Sable at Navy Pier Chicago. “The Sable will truly serve as an international destination in Chicago, considered one of the top cities in the world. We look forward to sharing the extraordinary views, design and excellent service that Curio Collection is known for and always achieves.”

“We have long envisioned a hotel transforming this iconic cultural destination into a place where overnight guests can experience the most spectacular views of our lakefront and city,” added Marilynn Gardner, president and CEO of Navy Pier. “We are so thrilled that it has come to fruition.

“The opening of this one-of-a-kind destination hotel and accompanying restaurant comes at a time when our city is ready to recover from the Covid19 pandemic and guests from the region look to resume travel. Sable at Navy Pier will serve as the perfect respite and complementary addition to the many other treasured experiences at the pier year round.”

Curio Collection’s latest site reflects its surroundings

This 900 East Grand Avenue address now houses 223 elegant guestrooms and suites where the historically sensitive design of KOO draws on the site’s naval past. Weathered brass, building materials and smooth curves mimic a ship’s cabin, while a colour scheme of blues and blue-greens is strongly reminiscent of the lake.

For meetings and events, guests can make use of 4,300 sq ft of event space designed to cater for a range of weddings, parties and functions. This spans three separate towers and guests who book have the option of taking over an entire wing of the hotel.

“As we celebrate the 100th Curio Collection opening, we are delighted to welcome guests to Sable Navy Pier, a truly extraordinary property that sits on one of Chicago’s most iconic landmarks,” said Jenna Hackett, global brand head, Curio Collection by Hilton. “Embracing the storied heritage and culture of its locale, this new property is another example of how Curio Collection serves travellers seeking one-of-a-kind, curated experiences and continues to expand our portfolio in the world’s most sought-after destinations.”

“Acron considers The Sable Hotel at Navy Pier to be one of our ‘trophy projects’ over our 40-year history,” concluded Peer Bender, CEO of Acron. “We are thrilled to present this spectacular hotel to the city of Chicago and all of its visitors.”
