Hilton has announced the signing of a new management agreement with Growthpoint properties, South Africa’s largest REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust), which will result in the opening of a new hotel under the Canopy by Hilton brand.
Located in Cape Town’s vibrant Longkloof district, the new hotel will feature 150 guest rooms and launch by 2021.
Canopy by Hilton first debuted back in 2014. Since then it has established itself as an ideal choice for travellers in search of locally inspired touches which immerse visitors in the culture and history of local spaces.
Currently, Canopy by Hilton operates in nine destinations. There are 35 more properties in the brand’s pipeline, with the Cape Town location in Longkloof slated to mark its debut in Africa.
It’s all about the location
The forthcoming Canopy by Hilton hotel offers a wide range of appealing features, but arguably its most prominent and desirable is its location at the intersection of Park Road and Kloof Street.
Set just a short trip from the city’s historic centre, the Company’s Garden, this hotel will reinvigorate Longkloof Studios, a 112-year-old heritage site.
This project is actually part of a larger precinct redevelopment being undertaken by Growthpoint, which will total a $37 million investment in Cape Town when complete.
The new Canopy by Hilton project will involve DHK Architects redeveloping a building which began its life as the home of the United Tobacco Company, before next serving as Cape Town’s Women’s Institute.
Rudolf Pienaar, Chief Development and Investment Officer, of Growthpoint Properties, had this to say about the project, “Growthpoint is thrilled to partner with Canopy by Hilton to launch this phenomenal brand in Africa. Our prime Longkloof redevelopment project is in a magnificent multi-faceted historic urban quarter of Cape Town and is the perfect setting for the first Canopy by Hilton branded property on the continent.”
“Our investment in this property reflects our confidence in Cape Town as well as Hilton’s exceptional upscale lifestyle hotel brand. We believe Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof will become a South African landmark and will be supported by travellers from all over the country and the world,” he went on to say.
Warm welcomes and guest loyalty
For a warm welcome and friendly environment, the new hotel will recruit ‘Enthusiasts’ to welcome and interact with guests.
These staffers will be selected for their expert local knowledge, and they will invite visitors to partake in local food and drink tastings right alongside members of the community.
In addition, the hotel will participate in the award-winning guest loyalty program for Hilton’s 17 world-class hotel brands.
Guests who book directly through Hilton channels will get access to instant benefits, which include a flexible payment slider that allows them to choose almost any combo of points and money to book a stay, exclusive member discounts that can’t be found elsewhere and free Wi-Fi.
Gary Steffen, Global Head, Canopy by Hilton, Hilton, said: “Canopy by Hilton was created to redefine the lifestyle hotel space for travellers who want an upscale hotel to help introduce them to desirable neighbourhoods around the world. Every detail in the design and facilities of these hotels is created with that ethos in mind and our Longkloof property will be no exception, capturing the dynamic vibe of the precinct and its reputation as a trendy hangout for Cape Town urbanites.”
