Hilton Worldwide’s lifestyle brand Canopy by Hilton has just launched an appropriately art-forward hotel in Jersey City’s Arts District.
The new Canopy by Hilton Jersey City Arts District is both a chic hotel and a welcoming space where artists and art lovers can come together. We learn more about this unique property.
Exploring Jersey City like a local
Set in the bustling heart of Jersey City’s Arts District, the new 211-room Canopy by Hilton scheme offers guests easy access to countless bars, restaurants and inspiring art galleries on its doorstep. The property’s owners and developers, Panepinto Properties, The KABR Group, Three Wall Capital and Greentree Construction, want it to act as a gateway for guests who wish to experience Jersey City like a local, all while being close to New York City.
“We look forward to introducing the Canopy by Hilton lifestyle to the Tri-State and immersing locals and guests in the culture of this burgeoning neighbourhood of the Arts District,” said Ravi Dave, principal at Three Wall Capital. “We’re proud to finally deliver a hospitality product that speaks to the neighbourhood’s urban sophistication and cultural diversity.”
Art is everywhere at Hilton’s new hotel
Stefania Panepinto, the hotel’s art curator, has dotted the entire property with pieces of local art. This starts with colourful murals by Ricardo Roig and Jenna Morello who pay homage to the city’s industrial past, and continues with a rotating art collection that will feature different artists and their work throughout the hotel.
In addition, limited-edition silkscreen prints by Gary Lichtenstein adorn the guest rooms, while original acrylic paintings by Candy Le Sueur and hand-made cyanotype prints by Tatsuro Nishimura decorate the hallways.
But that’s not all. Three areas in the hotel offer creators space to work on new pieces as guests watch the creative process unfold in real time. This part of the hotel is known as the Canopy Central Art Studios and encompasses a painting studio, a photography and print studio and a sculpture studio.
“As one of the most culturally diverse cities in the nation, Jersey City has an exciting and vibrant art scene that grows stronger and larger each year. We wanted to make sure our guests were able to see and feel the energy of the neighbourhood through our eclectic arts programme,” said Panepinto.
“We are extremely proud of the art on display at the hotel. Not only are the pieces created by locals but they each tell the story of Jersey City in their own unique manner.”
