Developed by Donohoe Development in collaboration with Koucar Management, DiLeonardo and BBGM Architects – and managed by Donohoe Hospitality Services – Cambria’s latest property has started welcoming guests.

Cambria’s newest scheme signifies the continued growth of this prominent upscale brand, franchised by Choice Hotels International, across the US.

Rolling out the Cambria brand

The fifth Cambria hotel in the greater Washington DC area, Cambria Hotel Washington DC Capitol Riverfront is a nine-storey, 154-room property located at 69 Q Street SW within the burgeoning Capitol Riverfront neighbourhood.

From here, guests have views of the Potomac River and are afforded easy access to attractions such as The Wharf, the Yards Marina and the new Audi Field stadium. In addition, the US Capitol, Fort McNair and the National Mall are all within three miles of the property – and Navy Yard Metro Station is a short walk away, connecting travellers to the rest of Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.

“For Choice Hotels, along with many of our collaborators on this project, this area is our home, so we’re especially proud to continue our expansion in the region and support the community we love with the opening of yet another Cambria hotel,” said Janis Cannon, senior vice president of upscale brands for Choice Hotels. “Like all Cambria properties, the Cambria Hotel Washington DC Capitol Riverfront is designed to ‘wow’ guests with locally inspired touches and stunning design, and built to accommodate the evolving needs of today’s traveller – whether they’re just getting back on the road, wanting to elevate their telework venue, or seeking the perfect staycation spot.”

A reflection of the local area

This newly opened hotel comes with an array of upscale amenities designed to reflect the neighbourhood’s culture and history. Its locally inspired decor includes a salvaged cornice from the site’s original row house, while the property’s multipurpose indoor and outdoor space includes a 3,500 sq ft terrace overlooking the Capitol building and the DC skyline.

Meanwhile, ground-level restaurant RowHouse invites guests to enjoy American-style cuisine and handcrafted cocktails, and the property’s rooftop lounge Perch SW, which opens in April, will feature local craft beers on a menu curated by the brand’s own cicerone.

The hotel’s contemporary guest rooms pair design-forward fixtures and a nod to DC street art with spa-style bathrooms. Notable facilities and services here include 2,500 sq ft of meeting space, a state-of-the-art fitness centre with Peloton cycling and bootcamp classes, rooftop yoga, pilates and the hotel’s Running with the GM programme.

This new scheme, managed by Donohue Hospitality Services, was developed by Donohoe Development in partnership with Koucar Management. Also involved were DiLeonardo, which was responsible for the interior design, and BBGM Architects. It’s the first Cambria hotel in Donohoe’s portfolio, with another currently under construction in Portland, Maine, and one of four Cambria properties to have been developed by Koucar Management.

Other Cambria openings in the first quarter of 2021 include hotels in Rock Hill, South Carolina and Orlando, Florida, as well as Fort Lauderdale Beach, Florida. There are currently over 55 Cambria hotels up and running across the US.
