Choice Hotels International is continuing to deliver on its growth strategy with the opening of the 98-room Cambria Hotel Detroit-Shelby Township.

This is the fifth US opening for Cambria Hotels, the upscale brand franchised by Choice Hotels International, since June 2020, following on from launches in South Carolina, Florida, Maryland and California. It’s also the brand’s second hotel in Detroit, joining Cambria Hotel Traverse City, with Cambria Hotel Detroit Downtown expected to open next year.

A prime location in Detroit

Aimed at both business and leisure travellers, Cambria Hotel Detroit-Shelby Township is located at 50741 Corporate Drive in Shelby Township, placing it near Cherry Creek Corporate Park, the Packard Proving Grounds Historic Site and Cherry Creek Golf Course. The four-storey, 98-room hotel also benefits from easy access to Michigan Highway. This means that downtown Detroit, the national headquarters of firms such as Ford and event spaces like Little Caesars Arena are all just a short drive away.

“The opening of the Cambria Hotel Detroit-Shelby Township is a tremendous example of the hard work put in by all Cambria stakeholders to increase the brand’s footprint around the US, even while facing a challenging travel and construction environment,” said Janis Cannon, senior vice president of upscale brands for Choice Hotels. “As a result of these efforts, guests across the country can experience upscale gems in even more of their favourite locations as they return to travel.”

An upscale hotel experience

At Cambria Hotel Detroit-Shelby Township, guests can dine at Verona by Fabio Viviani, enjoying freshly made food as well as local craft beer on tap and speciality cocktails. They can also unwind in the indoor heated pool, work out in the state-of-the-art fitness centre and host meetings in the 1,500 sq ft of event space.

The decor throughout is locally inspired, as each space combines the modern grit of Detroit with vintage flair and a homage to historic cars. The guest rooms are contemporary and sophisticated in design, meanwhile, with spa-style bathrooms featuring Bluetooth mirrors.

The new hotel was developed by Koucar Management, which is also working on the forthcoming Cambria Hotel Detroit Downtown, alongside other Cambria properties in Portland, Maine and Washington DC. There are currently 50 Cambria hotels open across the US with 80 more in the pipeline.

Cambria Hotels offers the experienced developer an opportunity to put their thumbprint on a project, within the proven structure of an upscale brand.
