Working in partnership with Marriott, developer AB Living is developing a pipeline of branded resort and residence projects in Mexico

Development group AB Living is growing its portfolio of resorts under both its own SHA wellness brand, and as an active developer of properties for international brand operators.

With its growing project portfolio, AB Living says it is poised to become one of the largest developers in the Mexican Caribbean, adding both resorts and branded residence projects.

AB Living is planning a number of nearby developments in the Costa Mujeres region, a coastal area outside Cancun that is just 25 minutes north of Cancun’s international airport – which sees over 500 flights a day from close to 250 cities. As well as facilities developed with the resorts, such as golf courses and tennis academies, the region also presents visitors with local attractions such as coral reefs, pristine beaches and the opportunity to enjoy seeing Mayan archeological sites.

A resort pipeline in Mexico

Working alongside Marriott International, AB will be delivering a number of upcoming resort projects, starting with Almere, an all-inclusive resort in Isla Mujeres that will open in May 2024 under Marriott’s Luxury Collection brand. A second phase, delivering branded residences, will be completed in late 2025. Following that will be the St Regis Costa Mujeres, a resort and residences project that is due to launch in December 2025.

In 2026, two further developments will be completed. A JW Marriott all-inclusive resort will open in Costa Mujeres, combining a resort and branded residences. And a similar joint hotel and residences project will be completed in the same location, for operating under Marriott’s W brand; this latter project will be a 300 room, adult only resort with no less than five restaurants. The JW and W accommodation will be linked by a shared entertainment facility including retail, performance spaces, bars and lounges, to be named The Village.

Seeking like-minded partners

“As we continue to expand our services, offerings and developments, we are eager to work with like-minded companies and brands that are evolving the travel, hospitality, and real estate space,” said Alejandro Bataller, Vice President, AB Living.

The group’s own SHA brand launched SHA Mexico in January 2024, where visitors can stay in 160 rooms or enjoy time in one of the 84 luxury private residences. The project builds on the success of the inaugural SHA clinic, in Spain, and will be joined in 2025 by a further SHA project set to open in the Emirates in 2025.
