Madrid-based design partnership BrimeRobbins has released images of some beautiful test rooms at Andaz Prague, a landmark hotel project due to open in early 2022.

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, will soon be home to the country’s first Hyatt Hotels Corporation property. We find out more about the ambitious project from BrimeRobbins, which has been commissioned to design the whole building, including the public spaces, spa, feature restaurant, conference facilities and guest rooms.

A new life for a historical icon

Set in the heart of the historic city, the Sugar Palace used to be home to insurance companies for the Czech Republic’s famous sugar refineries. Currently, the 20th-century building is being reinvented as Andaz Prague, a 175-room luxury lifestyle five-star hotel with 450 sq m of event space, F&B facilities, a health club and 30 parking spots. This eye-catching project is being delivered by UBM Development, UBM Architects and Hyatt, working with BrimeRobbins.

Now, BrimeRobbins has unveiled some tantalising images of the guest rooms, giving the hospitality world a taste of what’s to come. They show a soothing colour palette filled with soft browns, greens and blues to encourage visitors to relax, while strikingly high ceilings deliver a sense of airiness and top-notch fixtures and fittings provide a true sense of luxury.

In researching the scheme, BrimeRobbins considered three main areas – the history of the building, the culture and context of the area, and the myths and legends of the city.

“We created a very strong concept tied to the local Prague legends everyone enjoys when visiting the beautiful city,” said Maria Brime, design principal and owner at BrimeRobbins. “You can see it running through the whole building. This has been a challenging but fun project to create.”

Reflecting the appeal of the Czech capital

The multidisciplinary team behind the project is committed to connecting the new hotel to the building’s past, embracing the style of both historical and modern-day Prague.

“UBM has literally recreated from scratch the authentic mouldings, doors and windows, and together we have protected as much as possible in this project,” explained Garrett Robbins, design principal and owner at BrimeRobbins. “The heritage department of Prague is scrutinising every decision even more than usual since the Sugar Palace is the last major freestanding historic building in the city, so all eyes are on our project.”
