According to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, the Somerset Serviced Residence brand is set to open more than 40 new properties.

This significant portfolio expansion will see the brand grow its presence across Asia with a particular focus on expanding in China.

Regional growth

The Somerset Serviced Residence brand focused on providing a home away from home is set to grow over the coming years with 43 four-star properties, altogether encompassing 9,089 rooms, on the horizon.

As many as 16 of these forthcoming properties are expected to open in 2022, with another 14 opening in 2023, five properties opening in 2024 and eight properties on track to opening in 2025 and beyond.

Of these new sites, six hotels are in the pre-planning phase, eight are currently in the planning stage, 26 are under construction and three are at the pre-opening stage.

Asia is a particular area of growth for this global brand, with 26 properties comprising 5,502 rooms opening in China, four properties with a total of 1,038 rooms opening in Malaysia and three properties with 715 rooms altogether opening in Vietnam.

Shenzhen stands out as the city with the most arrivals from the brand, as it looks ahead to six openings, followed by Shanghai with three openings and Kuala Lumpur with two forthcoming debuts.

Designed for business and leisure

Notable openings within this pipeline include the late 2022 opening Somerset Gaoxin Chengdu in China and 2023 opening Somerset Gorordo Cebu in the Philippines.

The 210-key Somerset Gaoxin Chengdu will be a part of the Chengdu Vanke Centre mixed-use development in the Chengdu High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, just a 10-minute walk from Century City Station and a 30-minute drive from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.

Serviced residences here will span studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. This accommodation will then be joined by facilities including a swimming pool, fitness centre, lounge, meeting room and children’s playground.

Suitable for business as well as leisure travellers, the property will provide easy access to Chengdu Century City New International Convention and Exhibition Centre and New Century Global Centre.

The 155-key Somerset Gorordo Cebu, which is currently expected to open in the third quarter of 2023, will then open at the Gorordo Avenue corner of Archbishop Reyes Avenue, just moments from Cebu Business Park.

Guests staying in the property’s studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments will have access to a range of facilities including a swimming pool, fitness space, function rooms and a residents’ lounge.
