Radisson Hotel Group’s upper-upscale brand has 23 hotels in the works across Europe, according to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database – more than any other region.

Development activity levels remain high at one of the world’s most recognisable premium hotel brands.

Radisson Blu on the march

Our dedicated researchers are tracking no fewer than 62 Radisson Blu hotel schemes with 13,236 rooms around the globe.

Europe (23 properties, 4,778 keys) is way out in front overall, with Africa (15 properties, 3,306 rooms) and APAC (12 projects, 3,277 keys) following in its wake. Next up is the Middle East (seven hotels, 1,145 rooms), and then we have North America (three properties, 431 keys) and Latin America (two schemes, 326 rooms) bringing up the rear.

A frontloaded pipeline

Interestingly, more than two-thirds of these plans will come to fruition before the end of next year.

We’ve found that 23 projects and 4,953 rooms are scheduled to open in 2022, while a further 22 schemes and 3,987 keys are due to be ready in 2023. The upper-upscale brand’s completion rate will slow dramatically after that, as just seven properties with 2,025 rooms are likely to launch in 2024, and ten hotels with 2,298 keys have been pencilled in for a debut in 2025 and beyond.

Radisson Blu projects in Sheffield and Hoi An

That’s the big picture then, but to better understand what all this activity means on the ground, it may also be helpful to examine two live Radisson Blu schemes in detail.

The first to go under the microscope is Radisson Blu Sheffield, a 154-room hotel that’s currently being built on Pinstone Street in one of northern England’s largest cities, with a view to opening in the summer of 2023. There’ll be a rooftop bar, restaurant and terrace overlooking the attractive Peace Gardens, as well as upmarket shops and F&B outlets on the ground floor. Part of the £480 million Heart of the City development programme, the proposed hotel has been designed by HLM Architects’ Sheffield office.

Also worth taking a closer look at is Radisson Blu Hoi An, which is hoping to launch in June 2022. As well as featuring 734 rooms, suites and villas, this sprawling scheme will boast a water sports and recreation centre, multiple swimming pools, a spa, a fitness centre, a kids club, a rooftop garden, three restaurants, a lobby lounge, a pool bar, a ballroom, meeting facilities and even a private beach. BAKH is working on the architectural design, with KAZE focusing on the interiors.

Many TOPHOTELNEWS articles draw on exclusive information from the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database. This subscription-based product includes details of thousands of hotel projects around the world, along with the key decision-makers behind them. Please note, our data may differ from records held by other organisations. Generally, the database focuses on four- and five-star schemes of significant scale; tracks projects in either the vision, pre-planning, planning, under-construction, pre-opening or newly opened phase; and covers newbuilds, extensions, refurbishments and conversions.
