The luxury hotel brand has 65 hotel openings on the horizon, with an impressive 15,181 rooms and suites between them.
China is the setting for the highest number of new InterContinental hotel projects, with the U.S. coming in second for the number of brand openings over the next few years.
Focus on Asia Pacific
InterContinental is continuing its global expansion with plans for 65 new hotel debuts in the coming years. Of these projects, 23 are due to open in 2022, 19 are on track to opening in 2023, five are expected to debut in 2024 and the remaining 18 are to open in 2025 and beyond.
China will see the most activity with 16 projects and 3,701 rooms on the way. The United States is the second most prominent country with six projects encompassing 1,654 rooms and this is followed by Thailand with five forthcoming hotels comprising 932 rooms.
Overall, Asia Pacific has the most InterContinental developments, with 39 hotels amounting to a total of 9,003 rooms.
Elsewhere, North America is the setting for nine projects, Europe is the setting for eight projects and the Middle East is the setting for five projects. The brand is also opening three hotels in Africa and one hotel in South America.
City and coast
Some of the brand’s most exciting projects are InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, InterContinental Halong Bay Resort and InterContinental The Red Sea.
Opening in the second quarter of 2022, InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace will invite guests into a restored palazzo building, which was designed in the early 1900s by architect Carlo Busiri Vici, now home to luxurious accommodation and facilities.
The hotel’s 160 guest rooms and suites will be joined by a restaurant, bar and spa along with various public areas. The hotel is located on the city’s famous Via Veneto, close to Villa Borghese.
Expected to open early 2023, the new-build InterContinental Halong Bay Resort, which is Halong Bay’s first international luxury resort, will then provide a tranquil retreat on the beachfront outside the main streets of Bai Chay.
The 175-key property will be home to facilities including five restaurants and bars, a spa, gym, kids club and four pools, as well as six meeting rooms. Appealingly, the resort will have its own private beach and views over Halong Bay’s famous limestone karsts.
Over in Saudi Arabia, InterContinental The Red Sea, which is currently in the planning stage, is expected to open late 2023 as a part of the country’s Red Sea Project.
The new resort is located on Shaura Island and designed to house 210 sea-facing rooms and suites with immediate beach access, along with seven dining experiences, a number of pools, a spa, health club and event facilities.
