A look at the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows that IHG’s Holiday Inn brand currently plans to open 80 new hotel schemes – half of which are in APAC.

According to our research, Holiday Inn will grow by 80 properties and 21,073 keys in the coming years. We take a closer look at this prolific brand’s expansion plans.

Holiday Inn’s hotel openings by year

The remainder of 2021 will be a busy time for Holiday Inn, with 24 openings and 5,085 rooms set to go live soon. Six of these properties are already in the pre-opening phase.

This impressive growth will continue into 2022, when a further 18 properties with 4,086 keys are due to go live. But 2023 is looking a bit slower, with just 12 projects and 2,920 rooms in the pipeline at present, followed by another 26 schemes and 8,982 keys in 2024 and beyond.

Key growth regions for Holiday Inn

Holiday Inn is building up its footprint in APAC faster than in any other region – 40 hotels (with 9,173 keys) will open here in the near future, which equates to 50% of its entire development slate. Moreover, India is the brand’s top national growth market, with 12 separate schemes and 1,565 rooms on the cards, followed closely by Australia (nine openings and 1,589 keys).

Europe ranks second behind APAC on a region-by-region basis, with 21 ongoing projects and 4,870 rooms in the works. Over in the Middle East, meanwhile, Holiday Inn will add eleven properties with 5,989 rooms to its offering.

Elsewhere, six hotels will launch in North America, while Africa and Latin America will each get one new Holiday Inn property.

New Holiday Inn hotels to watch out for

In Indonesia, the 250-room Holiday Inn Resort Bintan Lagoi will open its doors towards the end of this year. Part of a dual-branded development that’ll also house a Hotel Indigo property, this project marks IHG’s first foray onto the island of Bintan. The hotel will be set on the beachfront in Lagoi Bay and offer an array of family-friendly amenities, as well as spacious meeting and events facilities.

Nearby, in Malaysia, Holiday Inn Sepang should also launch before the year is out. The 250-room property will offer guests easy access to the Sepang International Circuit, the 170-store Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA and Xiamen University Malaysia. Its onsite facilities will include a lounge and cocktail bar, a restaurant, a gym and state-of-the-art conference facilities.

Last but not least, the 220-key Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Bangsar is another noteworthy Malaysian project. It’ll boast the brand’s Open Lobby concept, which combines a variety of public spaces into a single cohesive open space where guests can eat, relax, work or simply pass through. Set close to key locations such as KLCC, Chinatown and Bukit Bintang, the hotel looks to be ideally placed to cater for both business travellers and tourists.
