A look through the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that Fairfield Inn & Suites’ development slate is focused almost exclusively on North America and APAC.

In the next few years, Fairfield Inn & Suites’ portfolio is set to grow by 63 hotels and 10,936 rooms, our data indicates. We take a closer look at what Marriott International’s prolific brand is planning.

Fairfield openings by year

Ten Fairfield projects with 1,469 rooms are due to be completed by the end of 2021, while 2022 will be busy too, with 29 scheduled launches adding a further 3,359 keys to its footprint.

In 2023, things will slow down a bit, with only ten openings on the books at present – although they will boast a combined 4,224 keys, hinting at the fact that several larger projects will be ready that year. For 2024, another 14 schemes and 1,884 rooms are already in the pipeline.

Top growth markets for Fairfield

With 33 ongoing projects and 4,006 rooms, North America is currently the brand’s key growth region. A whopping 32 of these properties will launch in the US alone, making it by far and away Fairfield’s busiest national growth market.

APAC will also see considerable growth, with 28 hotels and 4,108 keys expected to go live in the coming years. These projects are almost evenly split between China and Japan; the People’s Republic will get 13 additional properties and 3,886 rooms, while 12 launches with 960 keys have been pencilled in for the Land of the Rising Sun.

Finally, the Middle East and Europe will each get one new Fairfield-branded property.

New Fairfield properties worth tracking

First, let’s look at Fairfield Inn by Marriott Chongqing Yongchuan – set to open in 2023, it’s part of a dual-branded project with Four Points by Sheraton Yongchuan Chongqing. The 200-room property will be in the heart of the Xinglong Lake Central Business District, only a short walk from the expressway and the main railway station. Guests will no doubt appreciate the scheme’s proximity to major employers, as well as several high-profile landmarks.

Also in Asia, Fairfield by Marriott Gifu Takayama Shokawa recently opened its doors in Japan’s beautiful and lesser-travelled Gifu prefecture. This 60-room hotel offers guests easy access to countless hiking trails around the nearby mountains, streams and lakes. The 500-year-old cherry blossom trees on the shores of Lake Miboro, in particular, will inevitably be a huge draw for visitors.

Over in California, Fairfield Inn by Marriott Monterey will launch in Q3 2022. The 120-room hotel forms part of a larger mixed-use development that’ll also be home to a Residence Inn and multi-family residential units. Set just off Highway 1, travellers can look forward to easily visiting popular local attractions like Monterey Bay Aquarium and exploring the rest of the Golden State.
