Brand overview: Crowne Plaza to grow global footprint by 15,000 rooms [Infographic]
Our researchers have examined the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database and found that APAC accounts for the vast majority of the upscale brand’s expansion plans.
Crowne Plaza intends to open 57 new hotel schemes with 15,009 rooms in the coming years, our research indicates. Here, we take a closer look at its pipeline and standout projects.
Crowne Plaza’s hotel openings by year
Ten launches are planned for the remainder of 2021, which will bring 2,772 additional rooms into play.
For 2022, 18 openings with 5,775 keys have already been pencilled in. Another ten projects with 2,299 rooms are due for completion in 2023, while 19 schemes and 4,163 keys have been mooted for 2024 and beyond.
Key growth regions for Crowne Plaza
Crowne Plaza is focusing strongly on expanding in APAC, where no fewer than 50 new hotels with 13,294 rooms are being planned. A staggering 31 of these will open in China alone, increasing the brand’s room count in the People’s Republic by 6,960 keys.
The brand is also working on five openings in Europe, which will add 1,328 keys to its portfolio. The Middle East follows with two ongoing projects and 876 rooms, while Africa and North America will each get one new hotel with 187 and 200 keys respectively.
Crowne Plaza’s top projects to watch
The first hotel worth highlighting is Crowne Plaza Kolobrzeg in northern Poland, which will open by late 2021. It’ll offer 468 condo-apartments as well as an infinity pool, an indoor swimming pool complex, a wellness and spa area, an observation bar and café, restaurants, and a conference room that can accommodate up to 500 delegates. Since the property is only 200 m from the beach, guests will have easy access to the Baltic Sea too.
A few months later, in mid-2022 to be precise, Crowne Plaza Jinan West will begin hosting its first guests. This exciting 200-room hotel will sit alongside branded apartments in an impressive tower. As an administrative and transport hub, Jinan typically welcomes high numbers of business and leisure guests, who will no doubt appreciate the hotel’s convenient location and diverse amenities.
In nearby Malaysia, the 367-key Crowne Plaza Kota Kinabalu Waterfront will open in Q3 2022. As its name hints, the hotel will occupy a prime waterfront location in downtown Kota Kinabalu. There’ll be eight versatile meeting spaces, including a large ballroom capable of holding up to 600 attendees, as well as a rooftop bar combining stunning views with signature cocktails.
