Best Western is expecting a growth spurt in 2020 and focuses its efforts on Asia and North America.

In the coming years, Best Western plans on opening 37 new hotels, adding 7,490 rooms to its portfolio.

We find out where the new properties will open, and which ones are worth watching.

Solid growth in 2020

For 2020, Best Western has 17 hotels in its pipeline which will bring the brand 2,484 additional rooms. In 2021, another 6 large projects with 2,435 rooms are planned.

2022 is looking quiet with only 2 hotels in the pipeline while 2023 and beyond already have 11 new hotels underway.

Of Best Western’s 37 new projects, 35 will offer 4-star service and amenities while two will belong to the 5-star segment.

Top growth regions for Best Western

Best Western has set its sight on Asia and North America. North America gets the highest number of new properties, of which all 15 are in the United States. Asia comes in second with 14 openings around the region.

What’s notable here is that while both regions have almost the same number of openings, properties in Asia will, on average, have almost twice as many rooms as in North America. Within Asia, Best Western is focusing on Thailand with 7 openings and Vietnam with 5.

6 Best Western hotels will open around Europe. The Middle East and LATAM have one opening each.

Best Western’s top 3 brands

Vib, Best Western’s young, hip hotel brand is expanding fastest with 12 projects and 1,964 rooms. This is in keeping with the trend for offering more modern and affordable accommodation for younger travellers.

Best Western Premier and Best Western Plus will each launch 10 new properties, with Best Western Premier focusing on larger properties than the Plus brand.

Noteworthy Best Western hotel projects coming up

The largest project currently in Best Western’s pipeline is the 1,008-room Best Western Premier Sapphire Ha Long in northern Vietnam, which is set to open in early 2021. Set in the heart of Ha Long city’s hotel district, this property will feature spacious residential-style guest rooms with sweeping views of the city and the serene bay. A wide variety of dining and entertainment options is available as well as a health club, a business centre, meeting facilities and an executive lounge.

In the seaside town of Hua Hin, Thailand, the company will open its 410-room Best Western Plus Carapace Hotel Khao Tao. From mid-2021, this hotel will welcome leisure travellers wishing to experience Thailand’s beautiful beaches. Hua Hin is only 2.5 hours from Bangkok, making it the perfect spot for a weekend break from the city.

Modern travellers will enjoy the Vib by Best Western Staten Island which is slated to open early this year. It will be one of the first locations of Best Western International’s new lifestyle brand, which can be described as a “chic, hip, urban boutique hotel concept” in the upper midscale segment.
