Growing its presence across Europe, and with a particular focus on expanding in Spain, Borealis Hotel Group has launched two new properties in Malaga

Borealis Hotel Group has opened two new hotels in Malaga, Spain. The Hampton by Hilton, and Staybridge Suites, are within the Martiricos Towers, a landmark project in the Spanish destination.

The Martiricos Towers were developed by Spanish developer AQ Acentor. With 30 floors, they are the tallest residential towers in Andalusia at 110 metres high and both feature a rooftop swimming pool. The taller north tower includes apartments and hotel rooms, while the southern tower is purely residential. The Staybridge occupies floors two to six, while the Hampton hotel is immediately above on floors six to thirteen.

A combined accommodation offer

Staybridge Suites has 105 modern, spacious suites each with fully equipped kitchens designed to suit guests requiring a longer stay in the city. The property offers those staying a complimentary breakfast, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a well equipped laundry room. The Hampton by Hilton is larger, with 209 rooms. The brand offers guests a free breakfast, wifi, and an in-house snack bar.

The openings in Spain are part of a push by Borealis to grow its business across the country. In early 2024, the group signed a joint venture with Panoram Hotel Management, as the pair seek to expand together.

Earlier, in autumn 2024, Borealis opened another joint hotel project, close to Brussels airport. There, a Holiday Inn Express and Adagio Access were developed side by side, providing accommodation for travellers looking to fly through the international airport. The 208 room Holiday Inn Express was completed to the latest brand standards, including a crew lounge and large breakfast area. Designed for longer staying guests, the Adagio Access features 160 studio apartments, each with a fully fitted kitchen. Adagio’s Circle concept is designed to help hotel guests, when staying for a period at the property, to enjoy easy social interaction with other guests and hotel staff.

Borealis is a Dutch investment, development and management group with a growing portfolio of hotel-based projects across Europe. Founded in 1997, it has completed more than EUR2bn of hotel transactions in the following years.

Building in Germany

The company works with all the major brand groups, including Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Accor and Choice. Among the company’s pipeline projects are the Hilton Garden Inn Berlin Spandauer Ufer, a new build, 267 room hotel due for completion in early 2027. There, Borealis has signed a 20 year lease and will operate the hotel directly. The same project also includes a co-located 200 room Super 8 by Wyndham hotel. And in Hannover, Borealis is planning to convert the city’s former Pelikanfabrik into a 200 room hotel, the Jaeder House.

IHG’s Staybridge Suites brand is a well established international extended stay brand, with more than 300 properties across America. The Malaga launch is the brand’s first in Spain. In Europe, the brand has built a bridgehead in the UK, with eight properties open, while Staybridge has also launched in the Netherlands and France.
