The five-star Radisson Collection Hotel, Gran Vía Bilbao is now open among Bilbao’s greatest attractions at the heart of the city.

Highlights of this luxury lifestyle property include the world’s first NKO restaurant by local Michelin star chef Eneko Atxa combining Basque and Japanese gastronomy.

A gastronomic focus

Radisson Collection Hotel, Gran Vía Bilbao takes over the 1945-built former headquarters of Banco Hispano Americano with 137 rooms across six floors, including two rooftop suites with private terraces, Jacuzzis and views of the city.

The new hotel’s rooftop is the setting for NKO restaurant by the chef who’s been awarded five Michelin stars across his restaurant portfolio, Eneko Atxa. In a space incorporating a terrace with vertical gardens, colourful umbrellas and a geometric black and white marble floor, guests are served dishes reflecting the chef’s Basque heritage and admiration for Japanese cuisine.

This exciting restaurant is the third collaboration between the chef and Radisson Hotel Group and another partnership is soon to follow in Madrid.

Forthcoming facilities at this new hotel include a fitness and spa area featuring indoor pool and yoga studio, which is expected to open in the coming months.

Sustainable design

The property’s Art Deco-inspired design was brought to life by dAAr Arquitectura with interiors now combining curved lines, soft seating and the use of many different textures and fabrics. Marble, natural stone and wood meet a colour palette of earthy tones complemented with gold and blue.

Developed with sustainability in mind, the hotel has received the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum green building certification for consuming 47% less energy and 40% less water than comparable buildings.

In addition to achieving this status, the hotel has earned the LEED Innovation credit for creating a ‘Walkable Project site’ by promoting walking, cycling and other non-motorised transportation in the surrounding area.

Commenting on the opening, Tom Flanagan Karttunen, area senior vice president Northern and Western Europe, Radisson Hotel Group, said: “It’s a great pleasure to open the second Radisson Collection hotel in Spain and bring the brand to Bilbao. One of the most outstanding elements of this new hotel is its location in the heart of the city on one of the most prominent avenues, Gran Vía.”

“The hotel features stylish and attention-to-detail design, with an exceptional rooftop terrace, that is one of the best in Bilbao. We are honoured to partner with local five-time Michelin star chef Eneko Atxa to offer top-class gastronomy at our NKO restaurant.”

This opening is a part of Radisson Hotel Group’s plans to open more than 20 hotels in the next five years across Spain.
