Some 2,000 industry leaders from 80 countries get ready to attend the influential and prestigious International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin from March 4 to 6 at the InterContinental.

The German capital will welcome international delegates from the global hospitality industry for the 22nd installation of the renowned International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF) conference.

This three-day event will bring together some of the biggest names in the industry, who offer insight, opinion and pragmatic solutions to the biggest challenges facing the sector today.

Over 2,000 senior executives from over 80 countries will attend the event, so it is surely one not to miss. We find out more.

Debating trends

The conference kicks off with a pertinent introductory presentation by economist Thanos Papasavvas, Founder and CIO at ABP Invest Ltd, who will set the tone with a look into the global economic situation and how geopolitics is influencing this.

This will be followed by an overview of international hotel trends, which will include a look at tourism, travel patterns and emerging destinations.

One of the highlights of day one is the Investor’s Panel, which will see a panel of experts, CEOs and managing directors discuss the global movement of money, key markets and investment opportunities.

Given the high-level nature of the IHIF, no doubt there will be a full house for the keynote presentation entitled “Leading for Performance: The CEO’s Vision”, where Christopher J. Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton, will be interviewed by journalist and broadcaster Nick Ross.

A changing market

Day two will focus on how the industry and market is changing, and how hoteliers, operators, investors and developers can respond to this.

Customer experience will be high on the list, with the morning’s Trends Talk focusing on what Time Out has learned from its transformation into a digital publication, and what alternative models could be considered the most fertile in the hotel industry.

The global CEO panel addresses how CEOs foresee the future of hotel industry, given the immense changes it has undergone in recent years, and how can hotels serve their customers needs better within this context.

Asset management and investment will take centre stage in the afternoon, and tourism will be analysed in the Ministers Roundtable after lunch.

Innovation in hospitality

Day three will give delegates a chance to see where they sit within the broader picture of hotel and hospitality innovation.

Evolutionary trends within the sector are examined, and naturally, technology plays a big role in this.

The Tech Hub breakout session will set out the pros and cons of partnering with a tech start-up in your hotel venture, while the Alternative Players Interviews in the morning will see Airbnb President of Homes Greg Greeley interviewed by Omer Isvan of Servotel.

Financial strategizing will also be topping the list on the final day, with deep dives into maximising mixed-use developments and lending trends.
