TOPHOTELPROJECTS Founder and CEO Rolf W. Schmidt told TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR Singapore delegates that the Asia Pacific hotel pipeline will hit a total of 516,111 rooms in the coming 4 years.
Professionals operating within the Asia Pacific hospitality market have cause to be happy as the region’s tourism industry continues to experience a boom.
This was a key takeaway based on a report presented by TOPHOTELPROJECTS Founder & CEO Rolf W. Schmidt at the recent TOPHOTELWORLDTOUR Singapore, held at the Swissotel The Stamford on March 14th, 2019.
Schmidt presented figures that reflect a healthy booming hospitality market across the continent, boasting an incredible 2,204 projects in its pipeline, bringing a total of 516,111 rooms to the region by 2023.
Asia Pacific currently leading global pipeline
The Asia Pacific (APAC) tourism market is one of the world’s healthiest, currently welcoming 324m visitors to the region each year. It comes second only to Europe, which has an annual intake of nearly 700m tourists a year.
This is good news for the hotel industry in the Asia Pacific region, which is currently leading the global pipeline.
APAC is out in front with 2,204 projects in planning and under construction, more than the Americas’ 1,758, Europe’s 1,403, Africa’s 298 and the Middle East’s 566 projects in talks or underway.
China is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the biggest hitter in the region, with an incredible 1,014 projects in the pipeline, which will bring 236,486 new rooms to this ever-growing market.
Indonesia is another big player in the Asia Pacific region and will receive an additional 127 projects over the coming years, adding 26,637 new keys to the archipelago.
Key countries, brands and big names
China, Australia and India are where some of the biggest and most interesting developments are taking place in the APAC region.
A total of 335 of China’s 1,014 projected hotels are set to open in 2019, while Australia will welcome 36 new hotels this year, and India 54.
India’s growing tourism market will be bolstered by 169 projects in the pipeline, which will bring a further 29,871 rooms to the subcontinent, while Australia is preparing to receive a further 149 hotels over the coming years.
Most of the numbers in the pipeline across the Asia Pacific region are due to international groups building their presence.
