By delving into the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, we identify a significant 223 hotel projects planned for April completion.
A total of 43,571 new rooms are expected to make their debut around the world over the coming month, with a particular influx of openings in Europe.
Global hospitality growth
Of April 2022’s predicted 223 hotel openings, 88 properties, with a total of 18,526 rooms, are in the five-star category and 135 hotels encompassing 24,945 rooms are four star.
As many as 87 of these hotels, amounting to 14,415, are opening in Europe and 55 hotels with a total of 9,842 rooms are expected to debut in North America. APAC will see the arrival of 46 hotels and 10,134 rooms, while the Middle East welcomes 19 hotels with 5,545 rooms altogether. These are added to by 14 hotel openings and 3,205 rooms in Africa and an additional two hotels with 330 rooms in Latin America.
The countries with the most openings are the U.S. with 44 openings and 8,088 new rooms, the UK with 20 new hotels encompassing 3,356 rooms and Germany with 14 new hotels comprising 2,338 rooms.
London is the city with the most hotels coming to completion with nine properties and 1,503 expected. Dubai will see the arrival of eight hotels and a total of 2,316 rooms and Nashville is set to welcome three hotels with 942 rooms between them.
The hotel brands making the biggest mark include Hilton Garden Inn, which is seeing the completion of seven projects and 1,401 rooms; Hampton by Hilton, which is set to launch six properties with 1,129 rooms; and Voco, which is to mark the opening of five hotels encompassing 810 rooms.
Notable arrivals in the U.S. and Portugal
Particularly notable openings in April are to include Hard Rock Hotel New York and Hyatt Regency Lisbon.
The five-star 446-key Hard Rock Hotel New York is set to open in Midtown Manhattan at 159 West 48th Street. The new-build hotel will feature rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, including the 34th-floor Rock Star Suite, with interiors designed by award-winning design firm Jeffrey Beers International bringing the music-inspired vision to life.
Highlights of this space accented with music memorabilia include culinary concepts such as the upscale NYY Steak launched in partnership with the New York Yankees, RT60 Rooftop bar, the brand’s signature Sessions Restaurant & Bar and The Venue on Music Row for performances.
Additional amenities here will then include the brand’s signature Rock Om programme fusing yoga with a custom DJ-curated soundtrack.
The five-star 200-key Hyatt Regency Lisbon is then opening just a five-minute drive from the historic city centre of Lisbon. The new-build is designed by METRO URBE architectural practice, with the interiors of Seeds Design and Studio MHNA.
Designed for business and leisure travellers, the hotel will encompass dining and drinking concepts including a rooftop terrace bar, a courtyard and garden, swimming pool and spa, flexible space to work and meeting and event space.
