Azul Hospitality Group has appointed Alvaro Fraile to be its new chief operating officer from Marriott International, where he helped launch the AC Hotels brand in the US.

The San Diego-based hospitality company has made a key appointment.

Driving results for clients

Azul Hospitality Group has announced that Alvaro Fraile, its new chief operating officer, will report directly into president and CEO Rick Mansur. Fraile joins from Marriott International; he most recently served as vice president of operations at the Maryland-headquartered hotel giant and was instrumental in the launch of AC Hotels in the US market.

“We are excited to have Alvaro join Azul, as he is a highly regarded industry professional whose leadership and management style will further enhance our strategic objectives and help drive results for our partners and clients,” said Rick Mansur, president and CEO of Azul Hospitality Group.

Azul co-founder Doug Lieber, who has been chief operating officer since the company’s creation, will now transition into the role of chief talent officer to help the business attract the best hospitality talent around.

An experienced operator

Before working with Marriott in the US, Fraile held a number of senior operational positions with AC Hotels in Spain. He earned a degree in business administration at the University of Richmond in Virginia and subsequently secured a masters of business administration at Instituto de Empresa in Madrid.

“I am thrilled to join the Azul team and to be part of their unique culture,” he said. “I am looking forward to ensuring that our management platform continues to provide our clients industry-leading standards combined with exceptional financial results.”
