Accor has signed a management agreement with PT Bintan Lagoon Resort, a subsidiary of PT Edika Agung Mandiri, to open the first Mövenpick property on Bintan island Indonesia.

The site will be launched as Mövenpick Bintan Lagoon Resort in 2023, adding 413 rooms to the brand’s growing portfolio in the region.

Swiss inspiration

The resort will occupy a long stretch of private white sandy beach in the northern region of the island. Overlooking the scenic South China Sea, the resort will introduce Swiss-inspired hospitality to Bintan in celebration of Mövenpick’s culinary legacy.

Facilities will include three lagoon swimming pools, unique restaurant concepts, a two-storey beach club, spacious event spaces, and a ferry terminal. Furthermore, a vast wellness and recreation centre will feature a gym, a spa, and kids club.

Destination within a destination

Garth Simmons, Accor’s CEO for southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea, said: “We are proud to continue our growth momentum in Indonesia with the signing of Mövenpick Bintan Lagoon Resort.

“With golden beaches, idyllic nature, and exciting recreational activities, Bintan Island has long been a convenient heavenly retreat from the bustling cities. It is a perfect location for our Mövenpick brand, whose heartfelt service, attention to detail and indulgent gastronomy will resonate well within this leisure hotspot. Mövenpick Bintan Lagoon Resort will become a destination within a destination and will elevate the holiday experience with its extensive facilities.”

Robust pipeline

Accor currently operates 128 hotels under 15 brands in Indonesia and has a robust development pipeline of 51 committed projects in the country.

These include Movenpick Jakarta International Airport which will boost the portfolio by 310 keys in 2026; Grand Mercure Maha Cipta Palembang, bringing 220 rooms online in 2024; and Tribe Bali, set to add 200 keys in 2025.
