Accor signs deal to open Fairmont hotel in Djibouti
by Lauren Jade Hill | 02 Oct 2021 | Projects
The French hospitality group has announced plans to open its first luxury property, incorporating 155 rooms and ten serviced apartments, in the fast-growing African city in 2024.
This elegant seafront scheme looks set to bring Djibouti to the attention of the most discerning international travellers.
Introducing guests to Djibouti
The forthcoming Fairmont Djibouti, Accor’s latest signing, is ideally situated by the beach of Plateau Du Serpent. In this attractive location, guests will be able to enjoy easy access to the port of Djibouti, as well as impressive views.
“Accor has always been a key player in the tourism industry across Africa and Djibouti is no exception,” said Mark Willis, CEO of Accor India, Middle East, Africa and Turkey. “We are confident that this project will greatly benefit the hospitality landscape of Djibouti with the introduction of one of Accor’s flagship luxury brands, Fairmont, while supporting government efforts for its Djibouti Vision 2035.”
The property is being created in partnership with Carnegie Hill Hospitality. Headed up by Haibado Ismail, this company aims to become a leader in the tourism sector through greenfield developments and strategic partnerships.
Ismail said: “It’s not about building one more hotel. The partnership with Fairmont and Accor underlines our desire to create a unique place, emblematic of Djibouti.
“At the heart of our approach, there is a desire for authenticity. It is about offering a discovery, a destination in its own right that reflects our rich history, a symbol of our welcome, our culture, our traditions and our ambitions. It is also about doing our part in the development of the country, its economy, while offering a hotel complex at the highest level of luxury and service.”
Inviting travellers to discover the city
The urban resort’s guestrooms and serviced apartments will be joined by an all-day-dining restaurant, specialty restaurant, specialty bar, lobby lounge and pool bar and grill, as well as a tea lounge. Additional facilities will include a spa and fitness facilities, a Fairmont Gold Lounge, a salon, a beach water sports centre and a kids’ club.
Meetings and events will be hosted in 1,389 sq m of space, including an exterior courtyard for up to 400 guests and a large ballroom designed for both corporate events and celebratory occasions such as weddings.
