Accor reveals plans to open Qatar’s first Rixos Resort

Accor has signalled its intention to create a new 345-key luxury resort, Rixos Doha Qetaifan Island North, in time for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Accor has signalled its intention to create a new 345-key luxury resort, Rixos Doha Qetaifan Island North, in time for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Part of the Qetaifan Island North project off Lusail City, the first-ever Rixos Resort in Qatar is sure to turn plenty of heads with its exceptional design.

A milestone for Accor

Accor has signed a management agreement with Qetaifan Projects Company, a subsidiary of Katara Hospitality, to operate the new Rixos Doha Qetaifan. The one-of-a-kind island development that it’ll form part of promises to offer a luxury resort environment defined by Qatar’s history, nature and culture.

“This project represents a thrilling new way of life, as well as a symbol of vision, insight and aspiration to develop into an internationally recognised landmark destination of choice,” said HE Sheikh Nasser bin Abdul Rahman-Al-Thani, managing director of Qetaifan Projects. “We believe that our partnership with the Accor group will greatly benefit the development of tourism in the country, especially on this mega project designed to be Qatar’s future iconic destination.”

Growth across the Middle East has been a priority for Accor and Rixos ever since they joined forces in 2017. “This development is an excellent opportunity for us to expand our footprint in the region,” explained Mark Willis, CEO of Accor Turkey, India, Middle East and Africa.

The Qetaifan Island North experience

Rixos Doha Qetaifan will comprise a 345-key hotel, along with a souq encompassing 11,000 sq m of leasing space, a beach club, a theme park and a waterpark. The resort will also boast panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf.

The site of the proposed scheme lies approximately 27 km from Doha International Airport.

Slated to make its debut right before the World Cup, Rixos plans to provide a platform for showcasing Qatar as a tourism destination. One of the country’s biggest draws is Qetaifan Island North’s waterpark attraction The Icon Tower, the world’s highest tower of its kind, reaching 82 metres in height.

On opening, Rixos Doha Qetaifan will grow the Rixos portfolio to 17 properties across the Middle East and Africa. There are currently six operating Accor properties in Qatar with nine additional hotels in the pipeline.
