Accor goes big in Asia Pacific region: 1,100th hotel is launched [Infographic]

by | Jun 28, 2019 | Projects

Accor has opened 100 hotels in the region the first half of the year, at an impressive pace of roughly 16 to 17 hotels each month.

This landmark announcement comes just six months after the company celebrated opening its 1,100th hotel in Asia.

Accor recently opened its 1,100th hotel in the booming Asia Pacific market, doing so with the debut of Sofitel Beijing Central.

The speed with which Accor hit 1,100 hotels is remarkable. To put it in perspective, the 1,100 hotel landmark achievement comes just six months after the company celebrated opening its 1,000th hotel in the same market.

This means Accor has opened 100 hotels in the first half of the year, at an impressive pace of roughly 16 to 17 hotels each month.

A strong presence in an important market

The opening of the Sofitel Beijing Central (the company’s 1,100th hotel in the region), brings the group’s grand total of hotel rooms up to an even more impressive number: 210,000.

This is a critical figure, given that the Asia Pacific region is arguably the most important market right now due to its major tourism gains in recent years.

Significant increases in both domestic tourism in countries like China and India, as well as in international guests from the other parts of the world have led to steady growth and a booming hospitality industry there.

Having 1,100 hotels—and, more importantly, 210,000 hotel rooms—gives Accor an invaluable footprint in this vital region.

Accor in the Asia Pacific region

The Asia Pacific region is now so important to Accor, that it represents 50% of its continued global growth.

What also bears examining is the type of hotels Accor is opening in this part of the world. The company heavily focuses on the luxury and lifestyle market segments.

As such, the opening of Sofitel Beijing Central bumps the group’s total of luxury and premium class hotels within that region up to 320.

Speaking about their latest achievement, Michael Issenberg, chairman & CEO, Accor Asia Pacific had this to say: “We have had a record six months since announcing our 1,000th hotel with the Pullman Tokyo Tamachi late last year and it’s incredible to think that we have added another 100 hotels already since then.”
